Can we get a more definite date of the BC split? Even just down to a month range? CCP has been very understanding of the need to min/max SP training times in other areas, but suddenly with this we've had a brick wall. This is four and a half million SP being dealt with here, and for those of us on the yearly remap cycle it's hard to just up and switch to per/will to get BC V.

It will be done AFTER they have rebalanced T1 BCs and T1 BSs.

…so don't switch to Per/Wil, train the skills anyway and get free SP when the switch-over happens that will more than compensate for the slower training time.

And no, we won't get a more definitive date until at least the BC rebalancing has been presented and we can check out the changes on the test server.

CCP said train them now.
But you can wait for a definitive date.
And then it will be too late to still train those skills.
And the rest of us will point and laugh.

Change has been known from March 2012 so there has been plenty of time to figure out the best way for those who use remaps.

They have said it will happen after the battlecruiser and battleships have been revamped.

They have said that battlecruisers and battle ships teiricide will be part of the next update.

They have said train it now if you want to get it done before the change. implying it will be early 2013.

Based on this info I would expect we will receive the teiricide battlecruisers and battleships balancing in an update early 2013, possibly in January.

Since this coincides with the train it now if you want it done before the change, I expect the skills change will be part of the same patch/update that the last T1 ship changes will cover. It could be less than a month from now based on the info we have from CCP.

Considering it is now Dec 18th and BC 5 is about a 28 day skill with sub optimal remap and implants. Putting completion around January 15th if you start it today. You may already not have enough time to get it done before the change comes. You may have lost several million skill points worth of free skills, just because you were not willing to sacrifice a couple days of training due to a non optimal remap. How long does it take you to train 2 million skillpoints at a optimal remap with +5 implants? several months? Even with the worst possible remap and no attribute implants you would only loose a few days if you had already trained them. When the changed comes you would still be way ahead. But no, your OCD did not allow it. I guess you will just have to wait an train the racial BC skills at your optimal remap when it comes around.

If you want to benefit from this skill change, but have procrastinated and not yet trained it. You are an idiot and have likely already missed the window. When the change comes we will have had over 8 months notice that it was coming. If you refuse to train these skills at a sub optimal remap at some point over that 8 month period, then you have your own OCD to blame. It is not CCP's fault you are an idiot.

AFTER, as in when the work has been completed....

Which could mean it will actually be part of the same update.

Considering when the update is released for the teiricide of battlecruisers and battleships the rebalancing of T1 ships will be complete.

I may have been a little parinoid about missing out when I trained these skills back in april. But now all my characters can fly all races ships up to battlecruiser. Something I was planing anyway. I may have done it sub-optimally, but it is done. I will benifit from it when the time comes. There is no difference in time training it then or now, except waiting I might have missed it. my yearly remap does not come up until Febuary. But two of my toons were already on per/wil remap So i only lost a bout 3 days each on two of my four toons.

I have zero regrets. like those who waited, and are still waiting. It may already be to late to get them to 5.

If you care about this, then wouldn't BC5 be a good idea anyway?

I know sometimes it's difficult to realize just how much you spend on incidental things each month or year, but seriously, EVE is very cheap entertainment compared to most things... If you are a smoker, smoke one less pack a week and pay for EVE, with money left over to pick up a cheap bundle of flowers for the EVE widow upstairs.

The changes will be part of the Retribution expansion but will be released in a later update to Retribution but before the next big named expansion. Its about 6m extra SP if you train up both destroyer/BC to V.

I was thinking this too. Most players, especially those who actually know about the importance of this update, will have some BC and Cruiser skills already.... It's not like it's going to take you over a month to train BC to 5 and Cruiser of each race to 3 is it? This isn't a rhetorical question.

Do yourself a favour and HEAVILY invest skill points in medium-sized hulls and weapon systems skills.

Why?

Well, they are the majority of all ships available in EVE.

* Cruiser (16)
* Logistics (4)
* Heavy Assault (8)
* Heavy Interdictor (4)
* Recon (8)
* Strategic Cruiser (4)
* Battlecruiser (8, ignoring the 4 that use large weapons)
* Command Ship (8)
* Pirate Cruisers (5)
* Navy Cruisers (8, ignoring 5 limited editions: Adrestia, Etana, Guardian-Vexor, Mimir, Vangel)

If I didn't miss any, that's 73 potential ships!

[EDIT: The battlecruisers formerly-known-as tier 3 are an exception as they use large weapons.]
