As an avid gun owner and NRA member, I am curious about the cross section of the Eve Community that are both pod pilots, gun owners, and/or hunters. This is your chance to share! (in a non-political way, of course)

Myself, I own five: (details here)
A old lever action Winchester Model 71 (.348)
A old war-era German K98 Mauser (with all matching numbers)
A Chinese SKS
A Romanian WUM-1 (AK-47 semi-auto conversion)
A German 1938 P.08 Luger

-What do you keep on your gun rack, in your cabinet, or under your pillow? Pics are welcome.
-Do you have any amusing hunting and/or shooting stories to share? Trophy pics are welcome as well.

Myself, I plan to purchase a shotgun this spring, perhaps individuals have advice on makes and models that they favor.
Primarily intend to use it for grouse hunting, but something that is practical for home defense is always a plus.

I realize that a large portion of the EVE Community is European and/or too immature to legally own them.
Please be mindful of CCP Falcon's request:

To expand on this :

Discussion of weapons law, gun control and the civil right to bear firearms constitutes political discussion.

As such, there is no place for it on the EVE Online Forums. Future threads relating to these subjects will be locked and removed.

For my part, as the OP, I will not be baited into political discussion.
I ask others do the same, and expect the forum moderators to deal with various pea-brained trolls in an appropriate manner.

That said, I'll start things off with a moose hunting story...!

Back in September, about 8 years ago, a group of us went moose hunting in Interior Alaska.
Me, my dad, and two of his friends. Generally if you land a good sized bull, you've got moose steaks in the freezer for a couple years. And they are quite lean and healthy.

Luckily for us, one is a pilot who owns a Piper Cub on floats, so we were not limited to busier game management areas that have road access.

The plan was to fly out, camping for about 4-5 days, or until we landed a bull, whichever came first.
Weather wasn't especially nice, and the first two days we only saw a couple cows. (Of course - not legal to take. In Alaska, after taking a bull you have to preserve evidence of sex, ie moose nutsak.)

Third day, we saw our first decent bull, decent sized, with obvious brow tines and a rack well over the minimum 50".
Wasn't much more than a couple hundred yards away, in profile. Not a particularly difficult shot.
Hitting the heart/lung cavity is the goal, causing the animal to dropping where it stands and expiring very quickly.

My dad took the shot and the animal dropped out of sight.
Unfortunately, next thing we heard was a very unhappy moose.
"AAAA-OOOOO" "AAAA-OOO!" "AAAAA-OOOO!"

Wasn't too hard to find the crippled animal, but somehow my dad had missed the shot badly - shot hit the animal in the rear quarter. I've seen him miss before, but never like this!

At least it wasn't able to run away, so we quickly killed the miserable moose and quartered its 1350 lb bulk, prepared to pack it out to the floatplane. Steaks and mooseburger for everyone!

Three weeks later, it was my dad's birthday.
His buddies presented him with a huge oversized Birthday card.

No text - just a large moose sillouette....with a crosshair drawn on its rump. Lol

Hmm....well, one time we had this porcupine that kept digging into the foundation of a cabin that belonged to a friend.

We were on the porch of a neighboring cabin, having a few beers on a nice day.
The view from the porch allowed us to see the other cabin, much lower elevation on the other side of a stream.

And, like magic - the porcupine appeared!

Guy who owned the cabin got mad, decided to go down there with a shotgun and take care of that porcupine once and for all.
Took about 15-20 minutes for him to get down there, and the porcupine was still there.

At that distance, he was a tiny figure, but we saw him raise the shotgun....and heard the shot....

and suddenly the porcupine started running in circles! Then the would-be assassin started running in circles!
Apparently he had somehow either missed the shot - or just dusted the porcupine and made it hopping mad.
Not having another shell loaded, all he could do was run from the raging rodent.

Eventually it tired of the pursuit and ran out into the vegetation.

Afterwards, our buddy said all he could hear (while he was running for his life) was the hooting and laughing coming from our elevated perch!

Am I doing it right?

I'd like to apologize for the poor quality of the post above and sincerely hope you didn't waste your time reading it. Yes, I do feel bad about it.

There appears to have been a sudden interest in maintaining a firearms post on this forum, curiously it occurs after gun regulation reappears in the US media and everyone else points out how banning them in their own countries decreased such events dramatically.

All coincidental of course...

Nope. We just locked a guns thread because of the political landmine the topic is. Doing the same here. There are places to discuss your gun ownership elsewhere and the EVE forums aren't an appropriate place for it.
