4/10's spawn behaviour

So i've been honing my scanning skills ( in high sec for now ) and starting to get faster at pinning down various sites.

Last week i found my 1st 4/10 that happened to be in my home system, so i docked my helios and jumped into my myrm to go do it. The actual site was pretty easy to complete and upon blowing the sat dish, i scooped my 1st pith medium C-type shield booster which i was pretty happy about.

So yesterday, and again today, i found 2 more 4/10's. One was 3 jumps from my myrm at my home system, and the other was a single jump, but both times i got back to the systems and warped to the bookmark i made of the scanned down complex, it was gone.

Now my question is, once such a site has been scanned down 100% and bookmarked, does it vanish if i leave the system or are the matter or 3 or 4 mins it takes me to switch out ships enough for somebody else to scan it down and start the complex therby making it vanish when i get back to try and start it?

I'm guessing it's just a matter of somebody else getting there before me rather than the sites vanishing, but i'm hoping one of you guys could confirm it one way or the other.

Thanks for any replies.

More than likely someone beat you to it, or was in it already when you BM'd it. I seriously doubt sites 'pay attention' to system traffic.

Yep, that's what's most likely happening.

It doesn't hurt, when you find a site, to do a quick dscan on it to see if anyone's there. Could save you a bundle of time.

Perfect example of why using an all-in one ship is essential in exploration (especially in high traffic areas like Caldari high sec).

If you find a 4/10, chances are someone's already doing it, or someone will be very soon. I find its best to do it as soon as you find it and worry about scanning another one down later. And as others have said, an all-in-one ship works best for single account users.

It's almost worth it just for the tears to fit a nice fast scanning ship, wait for someone else to get aggro in the last room of that 4/10 and beat him to the telescope. Priceless priceless tears esp. when you link that sweet 400 million ISK pithum c-type medium shield booster to him in local.

Not that I would do that.

Yes racing for the telescope works . I've both won and lost these races. Makes it a little more exciting.

Thanks for the replies all.

I guessed it was a case of being beaten to it, which you've all pretty much confirmed for me, so cheers.

As for the 'all in one ship', my goal is to get into a tengu as from what ive read about them, they're pretty good scanners and the sub systems can be taken in the cargo hold to quickly dock and switch out once a sites been foun, but until ive got my core and defence skills upto improved (which is only a matter of another 3/4 weeks) i m sticking to ships that are not so costly should i screw up.

I'm actually suprised none of you guys told me to quit with high sec scanning and get my ass to low/null as thats what most people tell me lol

Also, last night i scanned down a site ive never heard of and googling it returned nothing definitive so i'll throw it out to the more experienced to see if anyone can tell me what it is. It was called 'Kazka bandit hideout'. I warped to it to check it out in my navy vexor and got quickly set upon by 10 or so frigs/destroyers which webbed me and got points, and over a dozen battleships!
I bearly managed to warp out in time and save my ship (had 13% hull left) so its certainly not a site to be attempted in a cruiser Shocked

It's something COSMOS related, that's all I know.
