Song names from variously obscure bands.

My favorite is a Noctis named "We Eat Your Children."

First I had a name for each ship type and would name all ships of that type the same. Hurricanes = Oppressor's, Drake's = Enforcer's, Caracal's = Tomahawks, Thrasher's = Pursuer's, Rifter's = Hunter's.

When I joined RvB I used to by US Navy designation like FF for a Frigate followed by the order in which they were assembled, 101, 102, 103, 104 and so on.

Now I use MLP FIM Characters for RvB Ships like Luna or Lotus and random names for ships outside of RvB. Like my Raven the Nevermore which was my first Battleship and now a hanger ornament I keep for sentimental reasons, my Exploration Wolf is Indiana or my Exploration Probe is Jones, my old Slicer is Gallows.

I tend to put a numerical prefix on all my ships so I can easily ID what kinds of fits they have.

As for the actual names of my ships... I'm quite fond of using sexual terms or naming my ships for what they look like.

How did you Veterans start?

I name my ships after A Song of Ice and Fire (Game of Thrones) characters.

Amarr ships = House Lannister
Minmatar ships = House Targaryen
Gallente ships = House Stark
Caldari ships = House Baratheon

The characters don't necessarily have to belong to the house, but being associated with it is enough for me (eg. Jorah = Targaryen). Pirate ships are usually just other random characters.

I'm a huge fan of Iain Banks and The Culture series and totally adore his naming conventions, a few I've stolen but most are in tribute. Not all of these are still extant, some have yet to be used, a few popped into my head while writing and I can't wait to apply them.

Navy Megathron is called Spindle Legs
Shopping Atron called Filthy Boobs!
