The discussion about information in EVE Online.

As some many know, I've been rambling every now and then about how I would like to see the d-scanner changed as well as being in the crowd that is pushing for the removal of local. In addition I have several other propositions that are related to these two main points one way or another. I will not begin by rambling up what exact changes I want to see to the d-scanner, but rather in general point out my views on what is wrong with the current system.

I think that the d-scanner and local are two very central aspects of everything that is EVE Online. Local intel being the first and foremost such. And a villain at that too. Also note that I will not be including probes into this mix because their core functionality does not upset the game in any way and is in my opinion a very well-made feature.

I am pretty sure that no one here will disagree with me when I say that local intel as well as the information given from the directional scanner are just that: information. If we exclude exploration and such then the general idea is that the goal of this information is to either lead to confrontation or to avoid confrontation depending on who has better awareness and faster fingers.

Without these tools, we can safely say that encounters would be purely chance based save unless some extreme manual efforts were made in order to track someone.

So what is my problem with local and the d-scanner?

Instant, detailed information.

Furthermore I feel that this instant, detailed information that is available affects virtually every major aspect that players complain about in EVE. Low-sec, null-sec, industry in these areas, corporation/alliance warfare etc etc etc.

And it shouldn't really come as a surprise because all of these aspects does have a reliance on information on player location in some shape or form.

Discuss. Agree - if so, why? Disagree - if so, why?

Remove D-Scan and bring back the "radar".

Just don't make it suck this time.

Edit: Off-topic but Chribba should update the eve-files timeline, the old one runs sluggish as hell.

The radar would be nothing more than a visual representation of the d-scanner so yeah. Aesthetics is hardly a priority at this point.
