Hello,

I just got into Eve a month or two ago and started with mining - industrial character. So far it was fun but i got another account and decided to start training a combat pilot. I am currently mapped intelligence-memory and i want to get most support skills to decent levels before i switch to perception-willpower.
I started training all Core Competency standard skills (some of them dont make much sense especially the targeting ones but i checked some 0.0 alliance required skills and some of them even require multitasking at lvl3, if anyone can explain this to me since most ships cant lock in that many targets whats the point).

Now i have a basic idea what to do after core is finished but i need some help. I dont want to spend like 6 months training, i want to get out and blow stuff up, but i still want to have most of the really important skills at lvl 4-5 since i will spend a lot of time per-wil mapped to get at least 2 races trained to tier 2 guns.

1. Navigation skills

I thought to get them all to lvl 4, seems worth it. Are things like Warp drive operation worth getting to 4? Also should i train Navigation and Evasive maneuvering to lvl 5, i know they are extremely important but its another 10 days of training, worth it at this point, since i really want to save time.

2. Tanking skills

- Armor
Hull Upgrades V
Mechanics V
Repair Systems IV
Get T2 tank, i dont think repair systems 5 are worth it but its not a long train so if i am wrong please point it out.

-Shield
Shield Operation V
Shield Management V
Shield Compensation IV
Tactical Shield Manipulation IV
Shield Upgrades IV

With this i have problems, too many skills and i am completely lost. Is Shield Compensation worth it, can i get away with lvl 3. Shield Management V is a long train, and since Shield Boost Amplifiers are used mostly for PvE can i get away with training it to level 4 for now. Also Shield Operation V enables X-Large Shield Booster II, again mostly PvE stuff (and X-Large Ancillary Shield Booster is better as far as i can tell). These 2 skills to level 5 are a really long train and i hope i can save some time on them.

All Armor/Shield compensation skills to lvl 3. Should i train them to lvl 4, or at least explosive for armor and EM for shields to level 4? I also hoped to save some time on this.

3. Field Technician

I got Hacking, Salvaging and Archeology to lvl 3. Dont really plan on doing much of this, and i read somewhere that lvl 3 in Hacking/Archeology is, given time, enough to open anything, is that correct?

4. Astrometric

Astrometrics IV
Astrometric Rangefinding IV
Astrometric Pinpointing III
Astrometric Acquisition III

Also not sure about this. I dont plan on doing much exploration but i want to be able to locate all sites in exploration and covert ops frigates, as well as have decent chance to locate ships in other hulls. I really dont want to train anything to lvl 5 here, but if its needed point it out please. I read somewhere that with 2 rigs and lvl 5 in frigates with Astrometric Rangefinding IV are more than enough to locate anything. Also i dont really get what does Astrometric Pinpointing actually do?

5. Other stuff

Thermodynamics, nanites repair etc, i really dont have any idea to what levels to get these. I really hope thermodynamics to lvl 3 is enough for now. I also want to get jury rigging to 3 and all other rigging skills to lvl 1.

Any other skills that i missed and are really important please point it out. Also should i get some skills from Core Competency to level 5, for example Energy Management. I dont really think that 5% more cap is worth it 10 more days of doing nothing but still after i remap to perception-willpower i wont train support skills for a long time.

Sorry for long post and thank you

Can't help much with caldari training, I am exclusively minnie pilot, but maybe you should tackle this problem from other end: think about ship you would like to fly in nearest future, find a fit for it and make skill plan needed to use said fit. Then just check what skills would get you most gank/tank/speed/whatever seems important to you and take those skills to IV or V if needed.

Also skills like Weapon Upgrades and Advanced Weapon Upgrades, Mechanics, Engineering, Electronics, Navigation are useful for all races and you should train them to IV asap to have more possibilities and fitting options.

Thermodynamics is crucial for pvp, train it to III now but take it to IV when you will have time.

Skills for T2 weapons will let you use T2 ammo, sometimes you just need it in pvp when faction ammo is not enough.

I started Caldari but im gonna train Minmatar and Amarr, i like their ships better (i like caldari ideology so i started as one). The ships i want to fly are hurricane and harbinger.
