Yeah that would be a bit harsh to handle even for a seasoned alcoholic. My one experience with a half a jug of the cheap stuff led to several destroyed rooms and setting the porch on fire because I felt like having a bbq at 4 in the morning.

I am going to guess that what ever was used to dye those bottles has made them unsafe for food use, especially storage of wine. They look like ones I have seen at Pier One Imports. The problem with dyed glass, especially for storing wine, is that the acids in the wine will break down the cheap dye. Because they are labeled "not for food use", there is no regulation on the contents of the dye and they can contain heavy metals. Also, because the glass isn't designed for being corked, the glass may not take the pressure of the corking machine and break.
