I don't spend much time in areas that are affected by this anymore but I remember it being a pain.

This is just a logical addition to the game.

I'm pretty sure we could get "graphic options" that have noting to do with adding code and have a lot more to do with DISABLING code from running, the same way we already have "disable missiles effects" for example.

I'd be perfectly happy to have have a bunch of lines and arrows in place of a lot of the special effects we are getting now so I could stick in tactical view, zoomed out and see it happen like in a game of DefCon.

Yes yes, I do like "pretty" but for screenshots. Once in combat however, having icons in space that represent ship classes, rather then just flashing red boxes, with a directional arrow for flight vectors, including little dots for missiles etc etc would be a lot better to follow in my head and probably a lot faster to draw.

I apparently have no idea what I'm doing.

+1,000 on disabling clouds

They don't add a lot of visual benefit but sure as hell chew down a lot of folks graphics cards.

+1 to this....

I prefer to play with tactical screen on and zoom out to see a bigger chunk of the battle field..... but some of the clouds are just to dense, and at that zoom level u cant see what objects are in the cloud .... and some times i bump into them when i try to manual fly and kite the rats... so i have to zoom in to see what around then zoom out ..and its getting frustrating to keep zooming in and out for every change in course.

So pls make an option to turn them on/off. Some people like to have a awesome looking cloud to watch fine play the with option on, some people have their frame rate murdered by them witch can make the gameplay rather dull give them an option to improve their experience and some people like me consider they are just in the way of my play style.
So why not make an option to accommodate all your paying customers?

+1 for the "Disable clouds" option.
I'm tired of having to zoom all out every single time I do an anomaly or a mission.
It ruins my game much more than ships not being balanced.
Enough's enough.

Jep, I would really like to see an option to disable the clouds, or at least turn them into something that might be less good looking but at least let's me play missions above 3 fps.

Either way, with or without option, the clouds definitely need a performance improvement / rendering overhaul.

Whats the point in having cool gas clouds if they lag the hell out of your GPU when you're trying to play???

to be brutally honest id dont care about removing them but can we like turn some of them down a little?

im just saying some anomally/complex clouds are worse than staring at a star you can feel your eyes burning unless your lucky to find that one angle that maybe isnt mostly aimed at the light.

I've not noticed any real frame drop but some of them sure as hell burn your eyes out.

Ignoring half of this thread to say....

This exact question was asked during the Art panel at Fanfest 2012. You might want to look for it, it's in the CCPGAMES channel. Since laziness will probably prevent at least half of you from actually bothering, however:

CCP is aware that the clouds are terrible and they're going to be revamping them and optimized as part of CCP's current overall plan to convert everything in EVE to V3+ for the shift to DX11. Once EVE is DX11, they'll be implementing a new lighting system, including tessellation.

If you're not running a GTX560 or better (or the ATI equivalent), I strongly urge you to prepare for an upgrade.

Hmm so I'm not going to be able to play EVE unless I have a DX11 capable graphics card? Great way to keep players CCP, make us spend hundreds on upgrading our computers. To in turn spend money on playing your game, great business plan right there.

Using a xeon e3 and a gtx 560, this game should not be causing trouble just because I'm watching my gas sucking venture. Atm, framerates drop form 60 to 0-5 when watching the ship close to a cloud.

The bad thing about it: Those clouds make the game unplayable zoomed in, and zoomed out (what you have to do if you don't want your legs toasted) they are so goddamn ugly they look like mushrooms.

I'm also wondering why those clouds draw so many ressources, they look like simple jpegs that align to your camera and by comparison, even the winamp visualisations are closer to looking like nebulae. And those are some 5kb shader...

Screw V3 and DX11. That will be miles away and sounds like it will make them run slower.

Just give us the option to remove them!

+1 for an option to disable all clouds.
It would make running missions/sites much more fun for me if I didn't have to zoom out in every cloud.
And even if they optimize them, I would love to have the option to disable clouds.
