I'm an old eve player returning after a long break. During that break my PC finally died and i have promoted my 2010 mac mini (2.4GHz core duo, 8GB RAM, Lion) to be the boss.

So, what are the pro tips for getting the best out of EVE with this new setup?

Many thanks,

Munty

Welcome aboard!

Go to the ESC menu and find the Optimize Settings button on the right, under "Display and Graphics" (IIRC, I'm not at my EVE client). Click that, and choose "Optimize for Memory." (Yes, you have 8GB RAM, but the Mac EVE client has a memory leak. This minimizes it.)

Run the game. It will probably run well, but look terrible. Now, go back to the ESC menu and start dialing up individual settings and trying them out in game, until you've reached a good compromise between appearance and performance.

You can also try "Optimize for performance" as a baseline and see how that works; I use Memory because I have a faster CPU than you do, but half the RAM. Mind the leak, though; your client will crash eventually, and the rate of the leak determines how much time you have. Running a client optimized for memory I can get 5-6 hours or more before it starts to go wobbly.

Note that your mini has a minimal graphics card, so you probably want to keep the graphical settings down. OS X will use the CPU to simulate any effects that the GPU can't handle, and you'll run out of CPU pretty quickly that way.
