Hi everyone,

I've been playing EVE on and off for a long time. Quite a few years. I started out mining, then continued to mine, had other accounts to do missions, etc, then I maxed out all of my mining, refining, etc.

Then, at some point I decided that two of my accounts would have battleships, and I'd run L4's with them. When I tried to do that, I found that neither ship could survive long enough in L4's to complete the mission before it expired. I spent some time training skills, a few months, and when I returned the results were not much different.

I even spent some time in Red vs Blue only to find the disorganized outfit to be a complete waste of time.

I stopped playing for a while, and now that I have come back, a friend who is not that bright is trying to get me to join a big corp he is in. We're going to null sec to do operations there, but so much has already ****ed me up already.

My friend insisted I sell my hulk because I wouldn't need it, as I was going to fight rats in null sec. I protested, but eventually caved and agreed. Then him and I tried to do L4's and I constantly had to leave just like I always did, and even after playing with my fits, it still seems impossible. Now, other people are telling me I should have not sold my hulk so I can mine stuff in null sec.

I feel like a jack ass because everything I like to do has been so difficult. Now with the new PVE AI, I have such a hard time getting anything done.

I am now aware that the Algos (new Gallentean destroyer) is better at PVP than PVE, but when I bought one and fitted it and went into a L2 mission (working on standings with a specific corp), I nearly died on the first salvo of weapons.

I was so angry at my massive failure, while I was previously so excited about buying the Algos, a ship I really like.

I don't know what to do, really. When I started playing years ago I was always worried that you needed years worth of skills to do anything in this game, and people always reassured me. And yet, I am not so sure.

At 16Mil SP I don't feel like my difficulty is justified. I use PYFA, EVEMON, even Battleclinic to find fits, and yet somehow my game is so difficult.

What advice can you guys lend to me? Naturally, I am happy to answer any questions you guys might have.

Any fitting you find on Battleclinic is useless unless you understand why it accomplishes (or fails to accomplish) its supposed objective.

Additionally, don't fly level 2 missions solo with a destroyer - dessies are damage dealers, not damage takers. You need to be tanked if you're going solo. Use a cruiser or a battlecruiser. Try the Vexor, good drone boat. The Talos will make life very easy for you.

Well before the mission AI, 16 million SP with that being mining and industry, will make lvl 4s hard still. Gonna need lvl 5 drones for drone ship or lvl 5 gunnery skills before they start getting easy really. But doable with lvl 4 skills and T2 guns or faction guns.

With the mission AI will be harder. Surprised with both of you guys doing a lvl 4 it is still hard though.

Do level 2 missions in a cruiser, it will be a lot easier.

You need a good tank, even in a battleship to do level 4 missions.

You are most welcome to come mission with me anytime I'm running fleets. You may have the skills to do incursions too. I'd be happy to help you get into those. With incursions you can easily make the ISK to plex your account. Just convo me sometime in game. Big smile

Me and a mate found out how to do lvl 4 missions in pairs. The AI prefers targets that are closer in size, so if you're in a BS launching drones, the frigates will prefer to go after drones. However, if you've got two people, one tanking in a BS and another in an active-tanked cheap frigate, like an Incursus or something, the AI frigates will go after the player in the frigate instead of the drones. His drones are able to chase down swarms of frigates while my frigate just pretty much acts as frigate-bait (and taking a few of them with me, of course) while his BS blasts any AI mediums or larges. We've done this repeatedly with the same results, and cleaned up level 4 missions without a problem.

My 'quite a few years' is just shy of 3, and I have 52,000,000 SP.

What's your 'quite a few years' and only 16,000,000 SP ?

This is a valid point, actually. I've only been playing for about 6 to 8 months and I'm approaching 12 million. That's only 4 shy of 16 million, and 4 mil won't take another few years (I hope).

There was some decent effort put into the OP but in the end the story fails.

Also, quit whining and just buy another Hulk.

Yup. Sounds fishy, and that could be wrong, but this is EVE.

he left the game for a while, probably an on-again, off-again player. that would account for the disparity.

@ Andski, I learned that from someone in the corp after the fact, and now I do understand it. I just didn't remember L2's involving so much damage.

@Remiel Pollard, I understand a good deal about fittings, but I suppose not a huge amount. Keep in mind, those fits usually come with guides as well. A friend also said that the AI simply attacks the person who is the easiest to hurt- who has the weakest tank. It seemed like it, as when ever we did L4's the AI would always target me exclusively (with me in a BS and him in a Tengu).

@Raskonalkov, Not all of those points are in mining. I have more than Level 5 Drones and Level 5 Gunnery.

@Thiassi Uth'Matar, I will post my Maelstrom's fit at the bottom of this post. I don't see why it's so hard for me to tank, really.

@Surfin's PlunderBunny, It's a pain to have my drones shot at so easily, but I find that it's not all -too- hard to keep them alive.

@Maggie Evenstar, I'd love to fleet with you! Contact in EVE is hard for me, but I know that's generally how it is done around here. I will send you a message.

@Krixtal Icefluxor, I take a lot of time off in frustration. A lot of time goes by where I am unsubbed and skills cannot be trained. Also, I'd love to buy a Hulk. When can I expect the funds from you, my friend?

Yes, it would. Plus, Lady Hestia is a 2007 avatar, so it makes sense. But it's not conclusive, 16mil SP may still be a made up, for whatever reason.

I meant lvl 5 skills in the drone category and guns category. Like drone interfacing 5 and then the racial skills to 4 at least.

Then large hybrid turret to 5 as well as rapid firing 5.

But at least get those to lvl 4 and perhaps get faction guns if you can before really trying to hurt lvl 4s.

EDIT: Your also gonna need a T2 tank before you do lvl 4s as well. Means more lvl 5 skills. :(

Also, battleclinic might be bad, but that fit is kind of bad as well.

Oh I see, hahah.

The way I say it is that my skills are not perfect, but they are not really sub par either.

Also, what's this about not being legit? Why would someone lie about sucking and being annoyed? Lol, I am quite confused.

They would lie because of politics. Which you were touching on in this thread.

Sadly they are sub par, but it is your time, so you can fly on ahead.
