An oldish tale =P

I joined the USAF in 1985, and became a jet engine mechanic on C-141 Starlifters (aircraft now retired). I was stationed at McGuire AFB in New Jersey and worked the nightshift on the flightline doing run-ups and troubleshooting etc. I was issued a used headset because I was runcrew, and the one I selected had the callsign "Scorpion" stenciled onto it all ready. Since I was born in Nov and a "Scorpio" I thought it appropriate to acquire it.Lol

After a few years working the flightline the headset took a beating with oil/hyd fluid erasing most of the stencil and leaving "SCOR" still readable on it. That became kinda my name/callsign with the rest of the mechs. I had also quit smoking cigarettes in favor of cigars because at the time well, everyone else at work was smoking them too.

We smoked right outside our shop in a beatdown hangar, and when a job came up we'd tap out whatever remained of the cigar and place it on a ratty old table for later use. We'd head out for the night and take care of all the maintenance, and launching whatever mission birds had to go.

Upon return the 5 or 6 of us who smoked had to remember who's cigar belonged to who.

"No thats not mine... thats Scor's cigar." was common. After a while that became my callsign, and i put it across my headset.

Scorcigar.

I've used the name in many MMO's in a few variations, but there it is =P

OMG I'm ******* old.
