Hi.

A brief background;
At the end of 2010 my Eve Online account expired and I lacked the funds to renew it till at least the new year. So I decided to sell my beautiful Machariel and my Orca for extra funding to purchase some PLEX in-game. Unfortunately my PC died less than a week after I used the PLEX, by the time I got a new system my account had expired. Due to this I never really had the willpower to return to Eve until now.

I believe there have been around 3 or 4 expansions since I last played, and my corporation that I am a part of is dead.

As such, I have no idea where to start (PvE when I last played Eve was certainly unrewarding) and am looking for advice.

What to do in EVE.

I'd strongly suggest trying to get in to a corp, that is doing an activity you're also interested in doing. Things have likely changed somewhat from the time you last played, so don't assume the things that worked then are still as good or things that sucked are still bad.

You're in luck.

Since you left, they introduced faction warfare and bounties, and they just buffed the heck out of T1 frigs and cruisers..

Go buy, or make, a stack of T1 frigates or cheap cruisers. Sign up with a factional militia. Go pew people in faction warfare. Some of these people may have Bounties on their head, which will be even more cash flow. Enjoy.

I am guessing your Mach was for PvE?

I'd focus on Isk first and if you have any viable skills to offer a null sec or wormhole corp that may be your fastest route to self-sufficiency. You might also check the Missions thread for a channel that is dedicated to blitzing missions in groups. I think it still exists.

Note that the mission AI is considered quite difficult or bugged by many (depending on whom you ask) in LV IVs, so I would proceed with caution on those and skip the harder ones and probably test out 3s first until you're comfortable.

There are threads about most of this as well. Another option is to join a mining corp with a cheap barge -- they may even give you one -- and get back on your feet that way.

Once your immediate Isk needs are met, the game is open like before, with some additions and revamps.

I'm back after a long absence too.

Faction warfare had just started when I left because of RL, and I was using a PC which has since died. I thought I would see how this all runs on a Mac :-/

I see some new tech 1 ships, and some stuff that (I guess) is not yet released, which is all good.

What I really want to know is, what has been nerfed and what has been buffed recently?

How's the planetary stuff working out?

Could someone also update me on the major points of EVE politics and wars over the last year or so?

Many thanks,

Virtually all the T1 Frigates and cruisers have been significantly improved. Minmatar aren't Winmatar any more (Dat Moa!). The new Tier 3 Battlecruisers mean that high DPS fleet ships are a little more accessible.

You should train Destroyers V as soon as possible, then you should get all the racial cruisers to III and train Battlecruisers V as soon as possible.

You can make ISK doing Faction Warfare now, but not as much as was possible a month ago (when you could make insane amounts of ISK doing FW)
