Laptop graphics card not working with EvE

Ok guys the problem is this, when I try and play EvE on my laptop (just recently installed it) the game is not detecting my main graphics card and is instead using the Intel HD Graphics Family on-board card. Its not giving me the option to select my main card (Radeon HD 6490M) and when I close the EvE client my screen goes all funny (mis-coloured and full of artifacts).

The drivers are up to date as far as I can tell from the device manager. If anyone can give me some ideas as to what is wrong id very much appreciate it.
