The model is actually quite different in terms of detail. It's just difficult to see it with a single perspective.

Here is a better example

Old Raven Rear

Perhaps post the new Standard Raven instead of the BadCamo Faction Raven for contrast purposes. It looks horrible enough in itself (although I do use mine, I can't stand to look at that camo).

EDIT: all my searches for the V3 Standard Raven turned up nothing as well. Certainly did not expect that. There are tons of the Old Raven and BadCamo Raven. Didn't expect this to turn into a search project.

Maybe nobody uses the Standard Raven's anymore ?

It doesn't matter, Hairy Armpit did not change in any good direction since the beginning or didn't not change at all.

Asymmetric ships look like toys near the straight ones, since asymmetry defies any logic.

Whatever.

I guess we didn't realize this when doing our hair styles back in the 80s.

Earlier we were looking for a pic of the V3 Standard Raven, but all we can find online even with Google is the Faction Raven. You got ?

Sorry i dont think so not without unpacking long dead (in storage computers with eve still installed on it lol).

Maybe i should do that some day to dig out my old SWG pictures as well for memory sake.. :)

What's funny is I don't even have the newer Standard Raven to picture and post. I've only used the Faction Raven for 18 months.

This might be the case with everyone. Does anyone fly them ? Smile

EVE Online has some very nice graphics and designs, and I think we can all agree that generally the ships look great

An issue with graphics in video games has always been that when you zoom in they become blurred. This even happens with modern (PC) games

As for EVE, this issue has been extensively discussed in this topic : 'Ultra High Texture Pack' : https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=39174

However, I doubt that for the texture blurring on ships in EVE an ultra high texture pack is really necessary.
An easier solution to this is 'multi texturing' or 'detail texturing'

Detail texturing / Multitexturing has many benefits, the two most important are:
- It's very low on resource
- It's very effective

See for some examples and how they could work great in EVE
http://udn.epicgames.com/Two/DetailTexture.html
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/shawnhar/archive/2008/11/03/detail-textures.aspx

A great example of how this improved quality (e.g. for the Avatar) can be seen here in the 'EVE Ships size comparison' video on Youtube
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S0O3Xl6a4wc

I hope that we see this improvement in EVE

I have a pic of the raven model before skin that better shows geometry change.

While detail textures are nice for extreme close-ups, they still don't solve the problem of lights and windows on bigger ships looking like blurry, low-resolution blobs.

Ideally, we should get both - ultra-high-res (though not really ultra nowadays with modern graphics hardware) combined with detail textures would solve the problem handily.

caldari ships should be more symmetrical and aerodynamic and bird looking

I thought the blocky look of Caldari ships is intended.
I'm not a fan of the Caldari design, but after so many years it's what I expect a Caldari ship to look like.

Taking away their edges would be like flattening all the curves on Gallente ships.

I never thought that Caldari ships looked the way they do because they just didn't use enough polygons in them.

Some people actually like the style of the Caldari ships.

Frankly, I find the OP silly, and just a little insulting.
It's like buying a painitng and then going to the artist and telling him he should have done it differently.

I love Caldari ships !... Except for Lai Dai. Orange parts with damaged paint, really ?
