[Steam] Updating the updated client ?

Hi guys, here's the problem:

I have the EVE on my Steam acc, so I decided to use it instead of downloading the normal client. Yesterday I downloaded the game, and when I ran it for the first time the launcher downloaded all the files (updates.etc).

Today i got the #2 update as well, played a bit and started doing my RL stuff. When I got back to my PC the steam was in the middle of a 3,1GB eve update !! Is this happening to everyone ?

Besides the ~leave the steam client~ answer there's anything that I can do so it wont happen again ?

OBS: When the download finishes I will update this post saying what happened. (launcher updating the whole game again, nothing, pc on fire, etc)

steam just tried updating eve now and has screwed my game data up
this was while i was playing eve too

now it looks like steam downloaded 3.1gb of junk and the eve launcher needs a 4gb patch to fit it

Disabling Auto Updates should solve this problem
I seem to have forgotten to set this last time I reinstalled Steam... 5.7 gigs later...

arria are you 100% sure ?. Maybe you formated your pc and forgot to set it off again. ?

if you're right what should I do now ? Download the entire client from eve site ?

to stop steam messing it up yes
or go on as you are and see if it works

on a side note you could backup your game folder
which im going to do now

then if it screws up just copy it over and run eve launcher or repair exe and save downloading the whole lot

The Steam update **** just messed up pretty bad. The download was 3.3GB of 3.1GB , so I paused, and restarted steam. Now its 2.0GB of 3.1gb.

Just deleted the EVE-steam-game, and now I'm doing a clean install using the website downloader. **** STEAM

What needs to happen is CCP needs to send a new data package to steam, so that all the clients update themselves to the most recent expansion, rather than all the way back to Incarna.

Currently steam is hosting the game files for the Incarna update back in July 2011, so basically if you try and move the client files back in, Steam will delete them and download an unnecessary patch.

Don't know if a petition is the way to go, or to ask through the forums.

Steam now hosts the Retribution client. If you had EVE installed before this patch went out, then Steam does not know any better. It only knows what it downloaded last time (the Inferno expansion files)

As Aria Karadem said, you should disable Steam auto updates for pretty much any game which uses a launcher delivery system to patch your game so that the launcher will handle your client updates for you.

Thanks for clearing that up!

The first time I tried to move the files into Steam, it automatically reset my update settings and started downloading a 5.6GB patch. I'm going to try again and see if I can get anywhere.
