Edited as the subject has changed.

I have now made this thread about fleet UI.

I have made a google doc expressing a good, functional, and organized fleet UI window.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Aiqm9PkeljIhdG1aT0tnYUFoT0NZVDZtOVpuTl9ucUE#gid=0

(It's just a rough mockup)

Also, some of the posts below refer to the initial OP of this thread, which was a FC fleet align button.

No, your FC should not be able to play the game for you.

I know a few FCs that would consider these changes the greatest thing ever since their ******** pilots never ************ align when they're told to.

But Danika is right, these would give too much control in the hands of one player and reduce the impact that individual fleet members can have.

Automation at that level would compromise the EULA!

Saying that, the Align button is only required with ships of different agility and mass (skills too) a fleet of 'all level 5' drakes in identical fits only need the fleet warp button.

I agree they would give too much power to *command* fleets.. but it would be really nice to have a mechanic to *respond* to FCs. Spamming Xs in fleet when you're ready to do XYZ is a pain in the ass. A broadcast that would (temporally) highlight you in the fleet window as "ready" would be good. Something resettable by the FC.

Broadcast when ready. Fleet "in the green" as it were.

Totally agreed.

I'd like to suggest something additional.
I'm not FCing but spamming x in fleet is really a pain in the bumm if your FC is waiting for multiple responses and tries to keep track of everything. It really could use some improvement. I get it sometimes, when I'm a squad member.

Some color coded information if you are currently sitting in your pod (red?), sitting in a ship but not battle ready (yellow?) and beeing ready for combat (green?), that the FC can see wich state is everyone in and if it would be wise to call for a tactical retreat (if such thing exists in EVE). Giving the option to switch between yellow and green to the pilot might reduce some elements of communication that make larger fleets less enjoyable.

The ability to assign multiple tags (and then beeing able to see only these) to fleet members (ECM, Damp, TP, Pointer, Shield, Armor, long and short range, etc.) could also bring some more overview in fleets.

Perhaps some clearly visible notification like "cyno available to you. wanna jump?" could (don't know if) make it a bit more convenient for cap pilots. I'm not a cap-pilot so I really don't know if this is a wise idea.

There is already too much automation in fleet combat, and too much FC control and input, adding additional mechanism of circumventing individual pilot decision-making is bad. In fact fleet warps should be removed, as well as target and rep broadcasts, because they reduce significance of individual pilot's skill and focus.

Looking through a list of 200+ people trying to find a name does not make for good gameplay.

It makes for exteme eyestrain and that's about it.

agreed, which is why the fleet align and jump commands weren't a big deal.

However, what about having an align to warp point option on warp gates?

This would be really nice to have

I do like this.

much like the fleet windows have broadcast options, I would like to see a ready up option that would mark fleet members in green on the fleet display.

Also, it would be nice if broadcast icons showed up in the fleet window next to the broadcaster/target.

I.E.

If a player broadcast a request shields, then in the fleet display a shield rep icon pops up next to their name.
This way you don't lose track of them rolling down the broadcast list.

Another example would be warping to a fleet member.
A warp to icon would pop up next to their name in the fleet window.

To add a bit to this that doesn't really have to do with fleets.
I would love to see an option to add bookmarks to the overview.

To add to this, I think the reason for the fleet warp is due to communication lag.

I can do a countdown to warp for the fleet, but there are players that will be at least 3 seconds behind, if not more.

I call that a benefit. Anything that makes large blobs more inefficient and ineffective is good and working exactly as intended. Forcing logi pilots to use watch list as a main information source will make them much more ineffective in large fleets then in smaller gangs, and that is exactly what is needed and why I want this change.

People that know their coms are lagging should start warping earlier in the countdown.

Again in my opinion anything that gives pilots more opportunity to **** it up is better because it gives advantage to fleets with more experienced and disciplined pilots, and this is the way it should be. With all the fleet automation and decision making centralisation even fleets of spurging idiots can be effective, all they need to do is anchor up, lock broadcast and press F1. IMHO this situation is bad, it provides wrong incentives and rewords, and should go away, the sooner the better.

I'm wondering what you think of the google doc I tossed up on a new UI for the fleet window/broadcasts/watch list.

Also, what about an align to warp option on warp gates?
