Tranquility has been improving the life of Capsuleers in the last years with Crucible, Inferno and now the Retribution expansion and, in the background, multiple changes have been happening with our Serenity server in China.

In this Dev Blog, CCP Heimdall and CCP HoraceX explain what has been developed for our players on the Serenity server. Full details of the blog can be found here.

Best way to promote EvE is to get the chinese, playing on the same servers as us.

Does Serenity have the Gallente Federation, or was that removed?

Interesting read. I have some questions, simply out of curiosity:

Will all players on the rebooted Serenity server be starting from scratch or has character data been preserved from the previous era?

Will Serenity v2.0 be accessible to those not resident in China?

Amongst the explanation of the TianCity marketing was reference to "...a series of online action comics set in the EVE universe..." Are these available outside China? Could they be made available (and possibly translated?).

So that's why EVE offline charts where so high on the last months ; it was free...
when honestly seeing this big blog I was wondering if it would announce the end of EVE in China... cause well, we never heard of them on any official way after all...

China's regulations make that pretty hard if not impossible.

I wonder if things like griefing are limited by the laws by the way...

Serenity is the name of the ship in Firefly, the old TV series. In that universe, the Chinese influence is everywhere, including the fact that Chinese is spoken as a second language. When I read the part in the blog about the Chinese military interested in some of the Eve ships it made me think of Firefly. I and some of my Eve buddies have spent hours talking about the similarities between the two universes, as well as the differences. There is even a Gallente outpost that looks remarkably like an Alliance cruiser.
At any rate, congratulations on making the move to a more robust company in China.

Maybe you guys can poke Joss Whedon into making a full length Eve movie. Blink

The bad guys went the other way, seriously....

It was an interesting read. I too would love to see these comics! Especially if theyre decent enough, get them printed and put on the soon-to-be resurrected EVE Store :)

It seems a shame that something like games can be so deeply influenced by international politics - I'm sure I am not the only one that thinks merging the servers at some point in the future to great one big universe (note - not overlayed; moar systems) would be super awesome.

Thanks to CCP for the statement; it was nice to have been given an up-front "this is the situation, yo" - though i do agree with a previous poster that you should have tried to sneak in at least one diagram :P

EDIT
Regarding the notions of forcing everyone to speak English; i actually thoroughly enjoy wandering through a system and seeing people converse in a language that I have no hope of comprehending without months of tutoring. It create a cultural diversity that implies a far greater depth to the universe than any high-definition space background ever could (@ccp: hint hint), and enriches the world of New Eden. I distinctly recall a long jaunt i took in a stealth bomber once, and flying through Russian territory was actually really cool. I'd occasionally wave in local, after many systems with only myself and my single Tourist in the cargohold (this is for luck) to keep me company. What i got back were lines of utter nonsense. Russian! Cool cyrillic writing! What was it they were saying to me? Was it a greeting? Some sort of warning? I don't know! But it was amazing.
That wander through space and the experience i had (inb4 "i was there") was made all the more interesting and memorable because i didn't have a clue what they were saying. Live with the Universe dude, don't try and force it to live around you.

For those interested in embracing other cultures rather than villifying them, here's a link to some examples of the art used in the aforementioned Chinese graphic novels.

http://eve.tiancity.com/homepage/article/2012/10/26/38160.html

Google translate does a fair job of making sense of the Chinese interpretation of EVE. I was amused by the Minmatar tribes being enslaved by the "Emma Empire". Nice try Google. :)

did read a bit like an ad piece.. 1/3rd (last bit) seemed relatively redundant

would have liked some graphs to go with the numbers and maybe some server-porn from the serenity server too

anyhow.. good luck over there and you're probably right in that the serenity population will outpace the tranquility population at some point. One wonders what kind of priority implications that will bring though.

So what are these "anti-addiction systems" the Chinese server gets and I cant have?

For the record, the anti-addiction measures I am interested in: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Online_gaming_in_China#Anti-addiction_or_fatigue_system

Which are entirely separate to anti-addiction treatments such as electric shock, sleep deprivation, chemical lobotomy or any number of other unscientific approaches to addressing the issue of MMO addiction.

Can you please create an ISK sink on the Western server that allows us to send Incursions to the China server. Just for fun...

Of course they could send back incursions to, but that's not to be promoted ;).

That would be a nice server crossover function ;).

And no real players would need to cross servers, just the battlesuccesreports or -failures of such "send" incursions.

I disapprove of the server split on principle, but I like that the Chinese at least have a chance to play EVE (of course under strict monitoring by glorious and wise government).

Would be nice to see those comics translated to English and made available to us, they looked great. Liked those two girls on the tiancity website, they sure know how to appeal to me Lol
