Hey guys, I looked at the sticky at the top and didn't see it mentioned. I saw today that EVE is on sale on Steam for $5.00 and I would like to purchase this. My only worry is that I won't be able to upgrade my trial account (already have some skills trained and like the looks and all that) because I saw this notice:

"Notice: Monthly subscription fee required after first month. Product keys will not work with existing EVE Online accounts."

Is a trial account considered an existing EVE account or can I add that key I get from Steam to my account management page to upgrade my account to full? Thanks for the help :)

(see J'Poll's response, below)

"I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. …"

Okay...You are mixing up some things, to it's time to clarify some stuff.

1.) You can upgrade from a trial account to a full account with the Steam offer.

2.) If you upgrade to a full account with a steam-key and are using a Buddy Invite (which is a special type of trial account) then the guy who invited you WON'T be able to get a reward.

3.) You don't buy the game through steam (the client for EVE is free). You buy an "x" amount of gametime (likely 1 month). So after that month, you need to pay CCP monthly to continue playing the game (which can't be done through Steam I believe. But you can have recurring billing using a credit card, paypal or something. Or use PLEX bought in game or buy ETC from resellers). But after you buy the game, you will have to pay one way or another for each month you play.

4.) That notification that I underlined. It means you have to start a new account. It's to prevent people (like me for instance) to use that deal to add game time for less then it would normally cost.

Not 100% sure if this also counts for trial accounts. There could be a possibility that trial accounts are excluded from this cause it states that Buddy Trials can use a Steam code to upgrade (see point 2)

Hey guys, it's the TC. I chose to try it out and it worked like a charm. As long as you have never paid for the account you can upgrade it via Steam. I just added the CD key onto my account and now it is fully active :D

Now, I just need to get off work so I can continue training my character! Hope this helps anyone else that may have this question.
