Good first step down a long road, Hellmar. Stay the course and we'll be with you every step of the way.

Looking forward to the follow on where you detail how you're going to commit to the new path. Please believe that we still wish you every success, and that all we've ever wanted was to sincerely help you make EVE the flagship of the entire MMO community. As I still believe it should be.

As I still believe it can be.

You said you were going to watch what we did. I know what you were thinking when you wrote those words, but let me recast them for you in another way. EVE is a sandbox, In the MMO world, EVE should stand for community, for partnership between players and developers, for continual evolution, for the greatest social experiment in gaming history.

Give us the opportunity to work with you, give us the tools to reshape this gorgeous, vicious, intriguing, unparalleled universe and then, by God, watch what we do with them.

Don't let us down and we won't let you down.

Deal?

That is reassuring to read.

That willingness to cast a critical eye over what you are doing and not just frantically rationalise is what separates the competent from everyone else.

EVE is truly unique. We wouldn't hate when you screw it up so hard if it wasn't.

It's nice to read that you understand this. Group hug.

Good blog.

A man who knows that dreams are limitless, but that people are limited, has far more chance of realising his dreams.

I'm sure that can't have been an easy blog to write, but it needed to be said.

Eve is a game of vast, and most of it untapped, potential - but it doesn't have to deliver it overnight. See each step towards that as a success and embrace it. Certainly from my own perspective I would rather see Eve developing and expanding in an incremental way, rather than leaping from dream to dream - but always falling short.

Well i really do hope this is a massive transformation for ccp and for eve, and not just words. I personally had a dislike to hilmar, because of his arrogance and 'dont care' attitude, but i have to say its nice to see a response like this.
However I hope CCP do not just listen to the playerbase everytime they shout and do make some radical decisions, because eve needs it. And bitter vets will always complain about something!

We get frustrated because you do implement some cool features like FW that has the potential to be fantastic, and it was built up to that, then all we got was a glorified war dec, the issue is you dont finish it...

Of course you have to develop other stuff, and why shouldnt you, but keep developing eve as well...

All my views are my own - never be afraid to post with your main, unless you're going to post some dumb shit

these guys put it into the best words for me. I have over three years invested...which to some of my fellow trolls is still green but i wouldn't trade this in for any other MMO.

This is something i honestly did not expect but is very, very much appreciated. Even with all the turmoil of the last year, i havent found an mmo that could topple eve in its pvp niche, but i did not expect it to stay that way for long anymore. This however gives me hope.

There are many things to iterate on, that will enhance the quality of the game greatly. FiS things, some of which already mentioned in the blog. Keep those in your focus and this 2004 player may stick with you for another 7 years.

It takes a big man to step up and take responsibility. This is probably one of the most comforting, and potentially amazing blogs I've ever seen in the history of EVE. You said you've wanted to re-instill the trust of the players in CCP and with EVE itself. Well, Hellmar, you've freaking gone and done it.

I've also read the blog that was released shortly after your own, and I seriously don't think you understand the magnitude of what you've done here. Our TS went from talking about absolutely nothing related to EVE, to an explosion of (what we would equate to) cheering. Every single one of us is excited as **** for all this to come to fruition.

In the eyes of this pilot, you've got my attention and trust. You've figured out all the things we've been screaming for (what seems like) years and decided to fix many of them in one fell swoop. If things work out like we all imagine, you'll have our complete trust and support for many years to come.

Thanks for this Hellmar. We hope to see big things from you all, and while I'm uneasy saying this (which is justifiable given the past), you seem to have the direction which you need to go.

Visual self-expression in a virtual setting is a core psychological component of gaming; most people need to see their avatars, or something vaguely humanoid, or else they don’t connect with the game.

Wait? What? NO! I don't care about my avatar, I want the idiot pictures turned off again like in the old days where I had to click a portrait to view his/her face. This insane focus on the visual experience will be your down fall!

What I want is the game to run smoothly on current hardware, by that I mean current, not some ******** bleeding edge expensive vacuum making an insane amount of noise toaster oven that cost me USD 3000.

CCP has failed again and again in delivering ANY kind of graphics performance - and why the hell are ATI lagging so far behind in performance its almost a crime?

This alone should be enough to focus on getting the core stuff working before launching new ******** graphics intensive stuff - and then I have not even begun talking about the myriad of bugs that plagues Eve like we were part of the dark ages.

Seriously, fix stuff, that's all the players ask for, not this utter crap you deliver.

Thank you CCP Hilmar for the apology. As a former Ceo and a Director I understand just how hard it is to say I'm sorry. This is a game that is easy to love, due to the hard work between CCP and the players. I look forward to the future with Eve.

Since this is a sandbox game, and one of the most wonderful and equally frustrating things about the game, maybe the player base can start by trying to do something about nullsec. Not a clue what atm, but what the hey.
