Maybe you should take a leaf out of the late steve jobs handbook..
He strived for and expected excellence by everyone, he had no qualms sending it back and saying 'now do it right'
He may of not been popular with his coworkers but look where apple is now

All my views are my own - never be afraid to post with your main, unless you're going to post some dumb shit

Yes they are, but they're good words, and they're words from the top.

It's only the first step, but at least the step is in the right direction.

Until we actually see some of these things on a server someplace, they are just words. There are no steps here. You are too gullible.

If your criteria for starting to believe is seeing something on a "Server someplace" then,

I suggest you take a look on SiSi then, some of the first things on Zulu's blog are there for all to see.

Other CQ's
Ship Spinning
Cyno & Capital jump effects.
Time Dialation (I believe although, I haven't actually experienced this myself and therefore can not confirm for sure)

I think you now owe someone an apology Smile

Either way I'm starting to look forward to more content being on the test server's and for the community being able to give feedback on how there balancing work is turning out.

Good read, one personal suggestion though; if you realy want to show EVE some love, try do do also a makeover of the POS`s.

So these 5 should be done:

- Nullsec
- Faction Warfare
- POS
- Balancing unbalanced stuff (capitals)
- Incarna II (The one you showed years ago.)

Dude, where is my Quafe Megathron?

Dear Mr. Pétursson

I thank you for this blog, and hope CCP will put action behind Your words.

But, You are not entirely clear in Your statement:

Quote:
We also didn’t do enough to assure you that this wasn’t the beginning of a “pay to win” scenario in EVE. Let me be blunt: Unless the MMO business changes radically, our virtual goods strategy for EVE Online will remain limited in scope and focus on vanity items, or as we said after the CSM visit this summer: The investment of money in EVE should not give you an unfair advantage over the investment of time.

Quote:
Unless the MMO business changes radically
leaves a rather large door open for You to do just about anything.

You should gather more inspiration from user feedback, and strive to look at all of our suggestions to improve our game.
And I thing there is need for change of culture amongst the bughunters. When reporting a bug, it is usually followed by a suggestion, the usual answer is "It's by design, case closed".
This is not and acceptable answer - we need something like "Thanks for your input. We will forward your suggestion to our features departent".

Looking forward to next expansion.
Regards.

The new Starwars game is gonna be crap.

I've signed up for forums and testing account in hope for a eve substitute and after a while a lil piece of intel came to me that there's gonna be separate servers for pvp and pve. That right there made me no longer go on their web site.

So from the SW point of view think eve is safe. But from the Wot point of view it is not.

There's a forum post about future vision in wot. and its all about combining wot with eop and wobs on huge maps leading toward one huge map of the world to play on. When that will happen, added the CCP greed to suck more money from players, I think we will see a mass migration to the Wot servers.

If you think I'm bullshitting think of this:
- 4-5 months ago I was a normal eve player, playing 12h a day ratting, running sites and doing pi (basically doing boring ****) so I can make enough money to support my 3 accounts (1-1.2 bill a month) and all the ships I'm losing in pvp(AKA: only thing fun in eve).

- Today as a sum of all the patches that's been trowed at us I stopped making any kind of isk, closed 1 account (1more soon) and buy me plexes from the isk from my reserves (wallet and mod selling). Today I sold my alts orca, hulk, makynaw and last of the faction/ded mods. I've bought me 2 plexes thats 1 more month for these 2 accounts. rest of isk il keep for burning in pvp.

When I reach Zero I stop playing eve and thats that.

Now why is that??? How I got to feel like this about a game that I was playing 12h a day sometimes on large fleet ops was staying 30h straight on weekends???... What did ccp do to make me feel like that about a game that I not only liked and (yah I'l say it..) loved, but also supported???... I made bug reports every chance I could, petitioned assholes that were picking up on noobs, opened up help channel every now then just to help people start in eve, and even brought in people to play the game, trained them and 3-5 years later they still in... well some of them...

All I can say Is that I felt betrayed by CCP, all my effort (as little as it was) was for nothing, in the end I'm just another milk cow for them and as a show of the respect they have for me they made me not have fun in eve anymore.

How many people feel like that? I'm pretty sure allot since the CCP CEO is making a blog about begging people not to leave game as there will be better days. There w'not be better days with all the greed influencing the decisions.

Few things are harder than saying publicly "I was wrong".

It's appreciated, and on my 2nd attempt to embrace EVE, I'm hoping this time I'll stick around.

Hats off to hilmar for admitting the mistake.
What you had was basically selling sunglasses to the most skilled PvP hardcore on the planet...... not gonna work. As for original direction, Eve is great to me because its player defined,if you sit in the office and come up with ideas as to how alliances, wars and sovereignty can be customised (there lies treasure). What happened to the sandbox? The lead up game is perfect. Sick of sec farming? join null. Where it falls down is players reaching the top then....what now?I know.....I'll go back to my wifes/gfs/brothers corp and act like an arrogant ****. But its all good because its free choice and has ripple effect. Captains quarters was imposing technology, and pointless. If I wanted to gaze endlessly at my fully realised3d toon Id be playing WoW. Make him a hard drinker, heavy smoker and scottish accent I still wouldnt give a ****. He exists to blow **** up. If the opt out for captains quarters wasn't there I would have quit. THAT (Aurum) market was imposing and also unnecessary. Give me aur to buy a navy mega? yea baby. Give me aur to buy a pair of boots I can get for free? PRESTIGE? Hmmm, kinda feel like Im buying birds in WoW. I like that devs here listen. Star wars galaxies was a great game in the beginning, and a classic example of devs not listening to players. Cmon guys, you made an adult game, listen to your adults. As long as you do that, and admit when you Fk up, you will retain your loyal pew pew addicts, of which I am one :).
Huge respect,

Real Me
* Eve subscriber for ~5 years
* 15+ years experience as software engineer and managing software teams (but no connection to CCP team)
* Eve Fan :)

I agree with the CCP CEO. CCP needs to refocus on improving the essential and intrinsic aspects of Eve (null sec, PvP/Factional warfare, industry). Although we have seen many new features added without the robustness needed, including planetary interactions, factional warfare, etc., but ultimately the core of EVE (PvP and industry) have not received the attention and care they deserve, given the importance of this core to the majority of players.

I also agree CCP needs to evolve their revenue model in order to survive and grow financially, and fund the improvements above. However, many of the Eve players I know have little interest in avatars, vanity items and avatar to avatar interactions, yet growing the player base must also remain a central goal for CCP, including expanding the attractiveness of Eve to a broader audience of people around the world.

Please keep a solid *core* team focused solely on maintaining and improving the essential and intrinsic aspects of Eve, while simultaneously seeking to achieve other goals. Remember that other MMOs already have a giant lead over EVE in avatar to avatar interactions .. another reason for EVE to remain focused on the unique properties that make EVE appealing to its subscribers.

Good post..not many CEOs would have had the guts to admit they made mistakes.

Its one of the things that makes EVE different from other mmos..and something that felt like it had been slipping lately.

I had the same thoughts as others in that I hope CCP doesnt turn into SOE.

Thanks for reassuring me that is not true..(as long as you follow up on your words of course.)

Thanks for the letter, good start

but results are needed to prevent this game from crashing.

one note in the "Letter" about eve being out of date in terms of subscriptions is totally backwards. eve is the only game i've come across that has an easy method to trade "game subscription time" for in game money, and facilitate real world money for game money, and make it work.
don't go thinking that the players that play for free actually play for free. they pay subscriptions like everyone else in the game, just they didn't pay cash, some one else did. really, Eve is ahead of other MMO games, you get both Free to play, and subscription payments, tapping both ends of the game player spectrum at the same time, with out unbalancing the game play. thumbs up to your ingenuity. You even wipe out the ISK (gold) Traders by permitting a legal in game way to trade ISK for real world money, and at the same time, give greater stability to the market, and take the money the Real world trades might have gotten.
This is the only Free to Play game that gives players full access to all game content, while still gaining CCP subscriptions at the same time!
The PLEXing players grind the ISK, resources and take fun from that. the "Paying" players, who have real cash to spend, who don't want to grind, but still like to PVP and cause general meham, they are the ones that pay the subscriptions. you can't have one group with out the other. You CAN NOT force the free to play group to pay for game content, because they will leave. you can't force the Paying group to grind for their ISK, they will leave. your current billing, subscription, economic model for the game is the future, all other games will eventually follow what CCP has accomplished here. Please for the love of all things precious, don't go backwards to a broken model.

for game play, we don't need new ships (which will add vast amounts of instability to the game).
EVE needs to fix the existing content, bugs found and squashed, and the damn broken Corporation permissions system needs to be fixed, desperately.

you could stop adding content to the game for a whole year, and just fix existing content, and people will still be joining the game, and old players will return. the game is as strong as its most broken component, and it won't matter how many new "mostly good" components are added, if the broken parts are not fixed.

so much about EVE is wonderful, a step ahead of its competitors, lets not try and step to what is current, but keep going forward further and further ahead of the rest of the pack.
