overall, good and insightful. One, however, fails to see the attachment to ship spin, when you can do that in the great glory of space

Thanks for the letter. It is a great first step. Growth is necessary but tough to work through. Knowing that you need to grow personally is as important as stepping back out on the path and pushing on. Looking forward to the work of the team and where you are taking us.

Apology accepted,

With out you eve couldn't have been a reality we now so much care about (have the Art of Eve book).
I understand a lot of your code went into it and as such you think of eve as your baby.
But as all babies they do grow up and need to participate in their environment.

That environment is the player community, eve is way past its mining simulator days.
And as we know internet spaceships is now serious business Bear
I still hope Eve Online will be your core business and you will give people the content they want and pay for.

So far eve development blogs / video posts give me the idea that your design or engineering teams make up new stuff up,
that sometimes get garbage canned because its not compatible with your current scrum deadline ?
Wouldn't it be great to save the work done and discuss it with the CSM for future implementation, waste not want not.

For the NEX store im still looking forward to seeing the Scorpion Ishukone Watch and more skin decals for other ships,
I really miss the black navy issue megathron.
Plus, how much for a lifetime subscription for this game, already got one for star trek online so its not strange in mmo's.

Good Luck with the next expansions and really hope to see more of CCP one day in Iceland.

Eve online is :

A) mining simulator B) glorified chatroom C) spreadsheets online

D) CCP Games Pay to Win at skill leveling, with instant gratification

It is a good statement, and defintely the sort of thing the community has been waiting for.

There is a question I have though that it doesn't really answer. To my mind the largest failing of Incarna has been the failure to deliver establishments, the multi-player environments. What I would like to hear from CCP is why this has not happened, and does not feature in the announced winter expansion either.

Is it due to technical issues (overheating GPU's, server performance) or simply that the environments have not been built yet? I was in the audience at Fanfest 2006 when 'walking in stations' was announced, and been to 3 more fanfests since and watched various presentations on the development process. I find it surprising that the CQ's are still being built at this stage and makes me wonder what state the rest of the project is in. Many players are wondering about this and don't understand the apparent slow pace of it all.

Edit - for that matter, players also want to know what happened to the other stuff they thought would be out by now, such as the new background nebulas that were shown at fanfest or the revamped EVElopedia which from the recent blog sounded like it would be launched with the new forums.

Yes, this is crucial.

We have previously seen different statements made to different audiences.

We are paying attention.

Now, with that said, I genuinely hope this is a sincere sea-change and do wish CCP (and my game) the best of luck.

" The investment of money in EVE should not give you an unfair advantage over the investment of time."

I think that boat has left the dock don't you? I won't bother to comment on the supercap blobs paid for by tech moons and botting. On a small gang pvp level, it seems every other ship that comes through our space is a cloaky tech 3. Tech 3's used to be something to get excited about. Now, everyone and several of their alts have one. Easy Isk is ruining the game. Inflate the currency massively or stop the easy money that some alliances can generate via moon goo. People should be excited when they can finally afford that tech 2 or tech 3 instead of considering these ships throw away.

"Do what we say, and say what we do" — this is the most important line to me (ignoring the desire to move to a F2P model due to monthly subscriptions being "a thing of the past"). As much as CCP wants to forge an awesome future, CCP will only be able to do so with a cooperative customer base.

I'm one of the players who was very excited about the Future Vision video at FanFest 2011. To me, EVE isn't only about spaceships in space. It's a game about economy, politics, piracy, capitalism, trust and betrayal — which currently happens to occur in a universe where the only activity we have is flying spaceships. I'm looking forward to an immersive, cohesive world where every action we take has an impact — from the simple act of docking and walking in to a bar, through to firing shots in a battle which determines who claims sovereignty over a system today.

I want Incarna to succeed, though I was disappointed by the initial release. I want all aspects of the virtual world we inhabit to be of at least passing interest to most players.

Thank you for taking the time to reopen dialogue with the players. I look forward to the deeper developer/player relationship that the practice of thinking and talking about what you are planning to do will foster.

PS: your letter was beautifully written and is worth reading again. The attention to word-smithing is an indicator of just how sincere you are in this matter.

Amen to that. Cannot wait to see the surface scratched.

Lots of words about incarna and Nex. When and to what extent is ccp going to dedicate resources to fis?

Make faction war occupancy pvp instead of pve https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=53815&#post53815

Thank you Hellmar. I empathize emotional hurdle it must have taken to write all of that.

I just hope this move is followed all of the way through.

That said, I can not wait to see what the future holds for EvE with you and CCP.

Dear Hilmar,

Having a lot of experience with humbling situations in my life, I've got to say before I say anything else that I respect the courage, honour and humility it must have taken for you to write this apology. To err is commonplace, but to apologise for it is a sadly rare sign of human virtue in this day and age. It is redundant to say that my faith in CCP is no longer unshakeable, but your apology is something I wouldn't expect from the CEO of bigger games companies like Activision, EA, Sony Online or Blizzard. Admitting fault and apologising for it is a good thing.

I know you're a CEO, and you're talking to customers in the manner of a CEO, but you're actually talking to us - again, not something I'd expect from more mainstream games companies. You have not fully restored my faith in CCP - as you have said, I'll be watching your actions more than your words. With the utmost respect, CCP has a history of apologising for things, fixing minor issues and calling it a day. For this to be a true turning point, CCP must truly change within and without - if you truly wish to convince us that CCP can deliver on the promise of EVE Online, you must commit to it one hundred and ten percent.

We need to see the radical changes we've been promised - regular iteration on older content, player issues addressed in weeks rather than months, constant interaction and dialogue with the playerbase. Reform and revitalise. Listen to player input at every turn. Test every feature you want to roll out on Singularity weeks in advance and listen to the testers.

Every time I try to leave this game, it pulls me back in somehow. I have never given up on the dream of EVE Online. I have never given up on the endless promise of tomorrow and the grand adventure of the far reaches of space.

I'm going to give you my cautious trust, CCP, one last time. Take me places I've never seen before and show me a world where impossible is a dirty word.

- Andrew

I'll see what the winter expansion actually brings. How many optional patches it will need to fix the new itroduced bugs etc. .
I hope CCP really changes and this aren't just words.
My alt will stay unsubbed, but I may buy one more month game time for my main to check out the upcomming expansion.
We'll see.

Oh and for the love of all that is holy PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE dedicate more resources to "the little things". There are so many daily paper cut issues / bugs in eve that at the end of a day of playing many of us are hemorrhaging. Most of these issues have been around for YEARS.

I can't agree with and emphasize this enough.

For example, every time I click a window to close I expect it to close. Not 9 out of 10 times. Every time.

Sound like a trivial gripe? OK. But every time it fails it is another aggravating break in game flow. And this is just one example. Fix the little bugs. They add up. An infestation of little bugs kills game enjoyment.

Other CEOs have been fired for less than has been admitted in this blog.

Still not resubbing once paid time runs out.
