Severely underwhelming sound coming from Mega Pulse Lasers, I think, especially compared to the older sound.

Funny story. Back in 2001 or 2002 when I started on the old weapon sounds I had a discussion with the Art Director on how the lasers should sound. And the only directive he gave me was. "Not like Star Wars"

well. of course. they would sue CCP if you would make them too similar. IP rights are everything for the lucas factory.

how to fix eve: 1) remove ECM 2) rename dampeners to ECM 3) add new anti-drone ewar for caldari 4) give offgrid boosters ongrid combat value

It's not only the lasers, most of the sounds in Eve are severely lacking, they don't represent the scale and power of the machines we are flying. They need to sound- powerful, impressive and intimidating. Even the smaller weapons. I mean a 180 mm autocannon is ******* impressive on paper at least, considering the main battle tanks of today shoot with a way smaller caliber.

Give me a sound that does justice of a 8x1400 mm alpha dammitPirate

I don't like any of the new sounds in this patch. Its like your sound department either got bored one night or took a load of speed and HAD TO put a sound on absolutely everything. What's with the "Skill Training Complete" bell? My dog keeps barking because it sounds like my damn doorbell. If you insist on having these "Crappy Gameboy beeps and chirps" in this expansion, at least give us the option to disable them.

This is how a Pulse should sound:

Basically, what we learn from this thread is that EVE players want their ships to fire dubstep.

Seriously, though, only star wars should sound like star wars. One of the great things that I love about eve is that it isn't like anything else (so far) and should it become star wars, or anything other than eve, that's when i pack it in. and imho, i've enjoyed all the new weapon sounds so far much more than the old ones. the old ones were quite tinny, especially on hybrids. they are a little "dull" but i like that effect - there shouldn't be any sound in space, but since this is actually a submarine game, the dull "thuds" of weapon fire are much more appropriate.

EDIT: on the subject of bass, there is such thing as too much. i get enough "bass" waiting at the traffic lights when some p-plater pulls up beside me and decides that i enjoy his "music" as much as he does.

They can't be the same people that were telling CCP not to use dubstep in the Retribution trailer.

I'm not one to post on the forums, and I know this isn't exactly constructive right off the bat, but I felt my revulsion warranted a post. Who can I slap for signing off on the heavy pulse laser bubble noises? I'm a hardcore laser-lover, and I feel like my ships just got defiled. What about this sound communicates a sense of destructive power, Imperial might and glory eager to incinerate the rebellious and unworthy? I hope a potential new player doesn't get a chance to hear the soundscape presented in the Incursion trailer which is, imo, one of the most amazing portrayals of horrific space combat I love to show non-player friends. If they go in expecting anything as cool as that (which should be Team Klang's goal more or less, though it is more Sansha-focused), they will be sorely disappointed.

I'd understand if you try to shoot for a subdued sense of that, too, as that could be awesome. But this... this is just carebear soap bubbles. While the sounds could have been thought a bit rough before, now they're so unintimidating I can't believe a beam sounding like that could make its way through melting wax. Yes, I would gladly revert to the old sounds if this is the only option. I'd encourage Team Klang to take another look at them and try again.

Also, what's up with the sucking-air-through-straw sound with warping now? Where's my awesome old soft-noise-leading-up-to-quiet-suspense-before-sonic-boom? That was a great change! Did people dislike that? Weird. Well at least the mid-warp drone is still there. Keep it.

Off-hand suggestion, but maybe for future sound changes we could have posts of possible sounds to gather impressions from the public? A voting system might be a bit much, but if fans of any particular race could pick out a general consensus of a few sound types they liked vs others, maybe it would work out better. Then again, knowing the internet, maybe not. Worth a shot?

On another note, the removal of the jukebox and addition of atmospheric/location-based music is fantastic. I now keep music on at a low volume because when I logged back in to hear the sounds of nullsec I had this reaction to it. I thought there must've been the Dead Space soundtrack running somewhere for sure. I was so elated I made exclamations aloud about it and started immediately googling about sound updates to Eve as soon as I heard it. The music in Freelancer was one of my favorite things about that game, and I think I can see a little inspiration from there in what they're doing with music in Eve now. I completely approve, and I would love new atmospheric tracks (not full of the junk that was in the old jukebox, but real, actually good tracks like the new nullsec ambience).

I could go into more detail about these things, but I can feel the terribleness oozing out of me as a forum poster, dragging the post further and further off-topic from the point of pulse lasers. Maybe I'll start another one for music. But yeah.

Pulse laser sounds. Ew. :( I might have to stick with missile or drone boats til this is fixed. Last I knew, missiles sounded great.

EDIT: I do appreciate attempts to make things like ratting or missioning feel less monotonous, and to that end I say thanks for changing up the sounds. While the old pulse lasers did sound more intimidating, the endless "chung chung chung chung" at the same pitch and same rhythm for minutes at a time gets tiresome quickly. So I applaud efforts to make sounds more dynamic and mixed up. It would be cool if sounds were more dynamic based on damage inflicted/received too.

Lasers sound AWFUL!!! I got so depressed and angry after hearing how CCP changed them... good thing I found this forum.

Blasters, projectiles, missiles all are an improvement. But beam and pulse lasers?? WTF CCP... they sounds like wet farts with bubbles... SERIOUSLY. I thought it was a joke! The small laser turrets are OK imho... but the mediums and the large sound absolutely ridiculous.

Heavy Pulse laser... Mega Pulse laser... should sound powerful and frightening... not like farting noises i can make by squishing my palms together. Please fix this CCP, I beg you!! I swear I feel like rage quiting cuz of this.

they are better... but.... Not as good as other games ... so :/

Please think about really revamping the sound system some day. weapon effects and all. From far away a bunch of ships fighting should sound like battle that is far away. It's just... not... there right now
