I'm not impartial since I made the old sounds. I was never happy with the old weapon sound except the projectiles. But we will take a look into this if you are unhappy.

Also I'd appreciate more comments on the new weapon sounds so that we can make one big adjustment rather than many small ones.

Thank you for your thoughts on the matter.

A few expansions ago most sounds of note - guns, explosions, warp, etc - would send a pulse through my desk as the subwoofer on the floor tried to make an escape.

That doesn't happen anymore.

Eve has sound?

Yes, it does. As a matter of fact those of you that play the game mute will not be able to appreciate the time the devs spent working on new weapon sounds.

So far from what I've heard, blasters sound pretty good. Interesting to note that the Ion Blaster Cannon is still my favorite sounding blaster, resembling a similarity to the old Neutron Blaster Cannon which had a very devastating feel to it.

At any rate, I tested out a variety of Pulse Lasers in particular, considering space laz0rz pew pew! I gotta admit I was very unimpressed with the sound, variety and flavors that came from the lasers. The visual effects are muted, the sounds are subdued and they just don't pack that A/V punch that they used to.

I am wondering if anybody agrees with me? CCP, what are your thoughts on the new sounds? Specifically asking people who do play with sound and care about it as a part of the game.

Thanks o/

I haven't had a chance to hear the Laser sounds, but after hearing the Projectile weapon sounds, I am not surprised.

Hate to say it, but I thoroughly dislike the new Projectile Turret sounds, and the Hybrids sound... okay. No complaints or praises.

But with regards to the Projectiles... the 180mm Autocannon no longer sounds badass.
The 425mm Autocannon sounds like a whoopi cushion.
I am also very disappointed with the 1400 Cannons.

I play Minmatar primarily, and while I like about 80% of the new changes, some of the changes I have no idea why they were implemented. Like the new Tempest, for example... I mean, the Fleet Tempest would have looked cooler if it had the new model, but the old Standard Tempest... is just so classic.

On another note, is there a legally accessible library of sounds/music of EVE Online, from the beginning to the current? I'd like to hear what the first ever guns sounded like.

Love the new blaster sounds / visuals. I've only seen them on serpentis battleships so far, but they sound and look awesome!

But seriously, I know what I am going to be doing in game tonight :)

Tach Lasers does not sound like evaporation, I kind of imagined that those sounds like fast evaporating water on hit and a pew on ignition (I think star trek phasors sounds the best, add in some boiling sound to the end of it would be excellent).

ACs sound rubbish, it should sound like a machine gun for gods sake, 800mms sound more like rattling than large projectile weapons of doom For reference it should sound like gundam heavy arm's beam Gatling if anything...

I hate the medium pulse sound because it just sounds cheesy(as if you are firing some scifi pistol or something) but the megapulse sound is growing on me.

AC 800s sound like machine guns, not really fitting with their size...

The closest I can compare the new lasers sounds to the sound you got from 1980's movies like Flash Gordon or Blackhole. It may have sound good on a 1980's game console, but they are seriously silly now.

What was wrong with the old sounds? Nothing.

the new pulse lasor sounds are crap!!!! CCP please change them back.

Previously you would fear the dps of a Absolution or a legion(maybe),
but now its like i am flying along in my blinged out legion ready to bring death to the emperors enemies
and ..... oh.....l my lasors sound like a fish doing a poo.

I don't like any of the new sounds in this patch. Its like your sound department either got bored one night or took a load of speed and HAD TO put a sound on absolutely everything. What's with the "Skill Training Complete" bell? My dog keeps barking because it sounds like my damn doorbell. If you insist on having these "Crappy Gameboy beeps and chirps" in this expansion, at least give us the option to disable them.

My cat LOVES the new skill training "bell" maybe your dog is just broken?

Pets aside though, options to turn stuff off is never a bad way to please everyone, but just feel bad for the ppl having eve sounds muted as i think overall they did a great job on making the game feel fresh and new (sounds and new target interface fx)

i really like the sounds. just wish there was a hotkey to turn them off completely. Or maybe they could add an option to automatically disable sounds after the first client, that would be p. awesome.

not a fan of the skill training completion sounds or the weapon flag on/off. somehow i think they should be much shorter. a single small beep would be better imo.

Yes, we reduced the bass in some sounds recently.

Yes this has been mentioned to us. Like it is now, the sound settings are connected to each user I believe, but we are looking into making it per character, so you can choose which of your client emits which type of sounds, using the ESC-menu.

If only I'd have some links for you to forum posts with complaints about the old turret sounds. Through the years I've felt that to be the most common dislike with the audio in the game. I may be wrong.

Funny story. Back in 2001 or 2002 when I started on the old weapon sounds I had a discussion with the Art Director on how the lasers should sound. And the only directive he gave me was. "Not like Star Wars"

The thing is that the guns in EVE are HUGE. I mean, frakking ginormogantic! Like, the biggest gun ever made by humanity in real life would be a medium gun in EVE terms.

It seems to me that if you're looking to make a sound that captures the sheer scale of these things, you want heap big bass. If dogs aren't barking in the next county, it's not chunky enough.

That said, I actually like the new medium pulse laser sounds, so clearly there's more taste than science involved here.
