Hello all,

The amazing Team Cut Offs recently made the following updates to the EVE Online Forums:

- Threads will now autolock after 90 days instead of 21 days.
- Everyone can now view the CAOD channel, whether or not they are logged in. Whether or not they actually want to is another story.
- Some players reported that they were unable to log into the forums after their names had been changed or if they were logging in to the forums with a character that shared the name of a previously deleted character on their account. This has been resolved.
- Character names that are overly long will no longer break the forums layout.
- The Forum Rules link now correctly links to the right page.

Cool and good changes so far, next question are we ever going to get the text formatting back? at least colors if you're concerned about text size? They where crucial in the war against the wall of text and I miss them dearly.

We have it down as a user story, iirc, but I don't currently know the priority.

Thank you for the quick reply.

Now when you say on the user story do you mean as a feature at is approved and awaiting assignment/allocation of resources or its an item awaiting approval?

Also one more request if you do put it up on resources can we get a few more colors this time around if its possible, like a light blue and a few others on the specturm that would contrast the dark backgrounds a little bit instead of blending in.

Also getting the parser fixed should be on top of the list. % characters causing "there was problem parsing the bbcode"-errors are really something what you would not expect to see in "live" forums.

Whats the status on the gaping maw in the forums that's responsible for eating forum posts.
When can I stop doing a "Copy" each and every time I post a moderately long post?

If you want fix for meanwhile... Lazarus form recovery (firefox / chrome). Works in any site so pretty much worth installing any ways.

Well, here's the thing. Basic best practice of a full featured and working software is that you don't have to rely on extras or third party add-ons.
In much of the same way that I don't have to screw around with Java warnings etc when looking at a website. Tasteful simplicity and robustness is a key strength ... not blings blings.

Truth be told, it it wasn't for your work on the Stylish plugins, I'd have a lot more grief against the folks behind the new forums. Many thanks for that!
However, I have to draw my line at installing yet another plugin to solve an obvious basic issue that shouldn't be there in the first place (which I had anticipated and vaguely remembered posting about it in one of the feedback threads long ago).

Most definitely. I support making it entirely blockable, IMHO.

I look forward to coloured text returning, its an easy way to tell at a glance that the poster has nothing interesting to say and their post can safely be scrolled past without the need to read it.

Nice changes. May I suggest another? How about a handy link on all threads for "go to last post read"? Now THAT would be huge for the forums.

Oh, and PLEEEASE don't bring color back. I'll have to block a ton of morons if you do that.

At first I loathed the new forums. Vehemently.

Now I adore them. Passionately. Being able to use evegate like this? Oh wonderful.

I also love the new forums and the way they are entwined with spacebook (evegate).

I would like to ask for one little feature i'm missing from the old forums:

A button in forum settings that allows me to ignore (not display) any forum signatures.

.... You can't take the skies from me.

If this is enabled, would it be possible to have the ability to block any/all post formatting? Just as I don't care to see everyone's weak attempts at art and/or demonstrations of their ability to cut/paste witty quotes in their signatures, I don't care to see how many different colors they can assault my eyes with.

thanks

I so hope the colors will return, it makes the posts so much easier to present in the wall-of-text cases.

Thank you for fixing the Auto-lock timer.

It was very strange to see threads locked after 3 weeks.

I'm having a problem right now where these new forums experience significant slowdown when I'm running the EVE Online client. It doesn't seem to be happening when I run any other memory-intensive program - just EVE Online.

One fix I would like to see, could we remove the "You are not allowed to use HTML formatting" error message that eats posts? At the very least it shouldn't eat the post, but I'd rather see the message removed anyways. The biggest issue I have with it is that it doesn't just kill HTML, it kills anything with closed angle brackets. I've tried to post talking about refining and the *ore* Processing skills, but using angle brackets instead of asterisks and it just eats the post.

Please atleast stop eating posts just because they have angle brackets, it's really not that hard to code in something that only gets mad if you're really putting valid HTML in there, rather than just a random word. An even better thing to do would be to let us use regular HTML formatting, like bold, underline, italic, center, etc (some of us are much more used to HTML coding than BBCode) and just disable the HTML code that you're actually worrying about being executed (and that's not hard, it's just a regex and a dict to look up forbidden HTML code). Either way though, the current implementation seems a bit ... lazy to just toss out anything within angle brackets and eat the post.

TL;DR Fix the "You are not allowed to use HTML formatting" message, especially in the cases where there isn't even HTML code to fuss about.
