The only reason any of us play EVE.

The original comment is funny enough by itself, and already contains the implication that it is most likely the last thing likely to happen to them in EVE for the day.

To be able to fly all the ships on the list I made
To own all those ships
To be able to fit and fly all of them competently (by way of SP, I'm not a competent player and I'm not holding my breath till I am)
To be able to manufacture anything I may have the inclination to try
To experience long term WH living
To not die horribly too often

Honestly i'm not sure yet.
Obviously I want to have fun, and i'd like to learn things about science, maths etc and human nature.
I'm going to try exploration, it sounds fun.

In my experience, whether you enjoy EVE or not has more to do with those you choose to associate with.

Perhaps it is time for the OP to consider a corp change.

I aim for plucky self-sufficiency, like a spacefaring Felicty Kendal with warheads.

I'm still hoping for an upper middle class woman with exacting standards to move into the neighbouring system and frown at me endearingly.

Thats on the grand scheme of things , but to the ducklings of the society , they all just fall in line .
Nothing much to see to be honest.
Shoot who they told you to shoot , mine where they told you to mine, guard the gate they want to be protected.

So there, you have a goal right in front of you. Stop being a duckling, and be one of the people who decides what to shoot, what gets mined, which gate gets guarded, etc....

For me, EvE is the best MMO because what your earn and accomplish can be lost. This is a big difference from most games, which while fun, most are essentially pointless. I cant even begin to calculate how many hours of my life i've spent playing numerous single player games. While i LOVED every moment, i can't help but feel like its just wasted time. Time that i won't be getting back! Even with MMOs, such as wow, there's an end point that can be reached. A point where you've got all the shiny gear you've spent ages to aquire, and thats it!

EvE is different. Its the only game that can really offer a continious possibility for achievement and advancement. When i first started playing i was drawn in by the idea of holding sov, gaining a starsystem to call my own. It took us a long time to realise that such an achievement isn't really possible for a small group, but limited to the mega alliances. But with wormholes, we finally managed to gain a system to call our own.

With EvE, you get what you put in, assuming your willing to take the time and effort. And they'll always be something that you can aim towards, something else you can try to achieve. And with the fact that the potential exists to lose everything you have worked so hard to aquire, gives added meaning and emphasis to your achievement.

Though EvE isn't for everyone. I will, personally, be playing until my dying day. Cool

Post with your main, like a BOSS!

And no, i don't live in highsec.  As if that would make your opinion any less wrong.

Eve can be fun or boring and it all depends on your imagination. If you can't dream then I doubt anything you do be it in real life or ingame can get you any fun.As a last resort just ride on the dreams of others whichever one you like the most.

I used to have a goal, but now I just browse the forums.

Used to do it for social reasons, but most of my friends left when Gallente got nerfed to - which is still not fixed.

Eve goal/purpose = Escape.

Here, I don't have to think about the real world, the constant phone calls, the endless flow of people in and out of my office asking questions they should already know the answers to...

Here, if someone interrupts what I am doing with a question, I can click "Ignore" without anyone storming off and pouting. No phones in Eve - Not even in the Space Barbie Studio Apartment bits.

Here, I fire up some music, close my home office door, kick my legs up on my desk, fire up the client and do "nothing in particular" in space.

Here, bugs in code are a problem for some code monkey in Iceland - Not me.

Here, I can chat with people from all over the world (on those rare occasions when I am not yet "peopled out"). Yes, many are filled with testosterone and Hot Pockets but others are here for the same reason I am and are a lot of fun to chill with.

The list could go on and on.

My goals vary. I find that discovering/learning/developing ways to make isk without much effort is interesting. Be it playing the market or taking advantage of manufacturing, or PI. Maximizing yields while minimizing effort is a fun challenge.

Other than that I like the thought of controlling territory, but in a style that's your own (small gangs rather than large mobs). Its challenging and dynamic.

for me, the most interesting thing in eve is to experience many different things and then make them stories. this is also why i love rpg games.

Currently .... I lack a goal in this game and without a goal in a sandbox , I might as well as call it quits.
People say this is a game which your action will make an impact.
Its pure escapism ,but when I look at it , its almost as mundane as everyday life.
You go to work , you get paid, you dock in station ,its late, you turn off your computer and go to sleep.
Where is the drama?

That reckons the question.
What is your purpose in EvE?

What do you plan to achieve?

Discuss down below :P

I play EvE to have fun, and enjoy myself.
As it's a subjective experience theres a lot of room for scope from 1 person to the next.

"If your not having fun, why are you still playing the game ?"
Is a far more pertinent question I feel .....
