First thanks for the New Eden Open, it was cool and I enjoyed it.

Second you really need to sort out the split personality thing, "this is CCP Dolan with CCP Fozzie", really? It was them last time, it was them in the studio a few seconds ago, why say it every match? I think it's a mistake to emulate other broadcasts with "passing to the commentary team" and then "passing back to the studio", if it's Dolan and Fozzie just let them smoothly talk in and out of the matches. You don't have to pretend.

And if you do feel you need to pretend then please make them run into some sort of carboard commentary box every time after chugging a beer, that would be hillarious.

Third one of the things I enjoyed most about the broadcast was the chat they had on Sunday about the future of the game. Hearing them talk about where they thought things should go was really interesting and cool.

Fourth is it worth considering having an "intro hour" before each broadcast which explains how the game works and what all the terms mean? Like "this is ECM" fo five minutes followed by "DPS, a guide" for five more. This way people who didn't know much about EVE could learn a lot about the game from watching the tourneys, a the moment there is a bit of a barrier to entry.

Fifth, as is discussed in this thread I really like the idea of a cannonball run, which starts in High Sec and goes through a load of checkpoints in low and NPC null and the first one back is the winnner, a sort of wacky races. I think it would be a great chance for the commentary team to drink while commentating and just have a blast, there wouldn't need to be a lot of technical analysis and it would be really fun.

I think the best thing about this idea is that, as it happens on TQ, it promotes the world and people would fly past traders and miners etc. They could fall into gate camps and try to escape. You could show it as an advert to non-players to show how deep and interesting the world is.

Finally props to CCP Fozzie, great professionalism, unbelievable knowledge and a quiet charm made him the stand out presenter for this tournament. Good work.

Hope this helps.

TL:DR Fozzie is cool, the tournament was too.

well in defence of the split personality think.

Recorded videos don't follow on from each other. If I link one to a mate it's only said the once...

i have a few suggestions about the matches

first: i think that all 4 bans should be "blind" (both teams tell GM what shiptypes they dont want to see and then GM shows list of banned ships to both teams).
Eve is not Dota and banning in turn - is unsuitable. team that bans second - gets huge advantage.

second: i think CCP should do something about "turtle" cap-transfer setups. its not because im butthurting after losing 3 times to turtle setup, i really think that in 8x8/70pts format - you just dont have enough dps, unless you are on 3 vindis.
you can effectively deal with turtle with heavy dps setup or jam setup and both this setups is very unidirectional. they can deal with tanked placeholders, but will lose to anything else. so its a pure gamble.

Just a few random thoughts:

I really liked the "space" background for the commentary, that helped to create a solid atmosphere for the show.

The run-down of the teams at the bottom of the screen with the ship types and details was very helpful, and the bars measuring the attack, defense and control capabilities were really good, too: not so much the estimated potential of the full bars at the start of the match, but definitely the way it showed how much of the potential was being applied and how much the potential changed as ships were lost: very helpful for a less experienced EVE player like me.

The bans system seemed interesting and like it created a more fluid metagame as well as providing talking points - I liked how ban picks could be a possible indicator (or bluff) of what sort of set up the team might be going to bring.

The matches were short but sweet in many cases, with the potential for dramatic reversals! I liked that a lot.

The interspersion of action with previews and staff interviews gave the event a good sense of pace. My only criticism was that the earlier days had more matches and thus more "action" while the later days seemed to have more "atmosphere" , and I can't help but wonder if it wouldn't work better the other way 'round?

Excellent banter from the commentators, and a good ratio of banter to serious commentary.

The "info slides" on the teams for the later days were brilliant and informative.

One additional thing I might have liked to hear would be some short voice interviews with the team captains or team members, it'd be great to hear more from and about the teams directly from the teams themselves, to build a greater connection between the audience and the participants.

Lastly, what's with all the CCP people being so good looking? All the men were handsome and the women, beautiful. I hope you're not excluding your more average-looking employees from taking part: this isn't "Iceland's Next Top Model", you know!

CCP Fozzie also asked for ideas on other tournaments

Run some as divisions. ie division 1 tourny is T1 frigates and destroyers only

other divisions varius other levels of ships

and then the "unlimited" with any mods/ships in the game

This will have a limited barrier entry for players

I really expected the cap-chain turtles to appear and dominate in ATX (see my posts about the ASB), but it appears people took longer than that to realize you can't break an XL-ASB basi/tengu in a cap chain with a BS. Of course it's also much easier to tank in an 8-man format than in a 12-man format.

Luckily the ASB is getting nerfed, although not before it ruined this NEO. Hopefully, the nerf will be enough - I don't have EFT right now.
