Having read the article in its entirety, and being an avid Kickstarter supporter (with several projects backed under my kickstarter tag) I can say, that even though the article is spot on on many of the flaws of the crowdfunding system, it still reeks of anti-kickstarter propaganda.

What I feel from the author is a sense of disbelief in how people can spend THEIR money in practically "smoke and mirrors" plans and eagerly keep on spending even when the snake oil sellers fail to deliver a cure for rheumatism and kidney stones.

He also expresses amazement at how certain projects, akin to Snake Oil v2.0 that will cure CANCER not only are total ripoffs but people willingly flock to it and praise the product as if it actually delivered.

Guess what ... It boils down to choice, personal choice.

A fool and his money are soon parted, so the old adage keeps being real after all these years, yet, kickstarter still delivers a necessary outlet for people (like me) that actually enjoy wasting money on the awesome set of cards with zombie prints, the super duper board game of zombie smashing and even a glimpse at a potential isometric RPG in a market flooded with lame old first person shooters (even EVE has a First Person shooter coming out for godssakes!)

And for others it might be the brightly colored and shiny shoes with a twist, the robocop statue or the furry like tail appendage that moves on its own.

So what? Lets face it, on this day and age of hacktivism and facebook likes that cure cancer, At least Kickstarter has a higher chance of making the snake oil that at least works as a nice looking screensaver.

What irks me somewhat is that this trend of pointing out stupidity on EVERYTHING easily applies to ... well ... EVERYTHING, its so generic that you end up wearing extremely specialized GENERALIZATION glasses to all kinds of nonsense spouted these days in social media.

Changing that article , and thinking and developing this through in my head, I can easily criticize in the same format, governments, school projects, church donations, city council programs, welfare systems and tablets.

If there was someone that already knew how ridiculous our modern age would be was Jacques Derrida . And considering that, its easier to understand how the Internet and Computers in general use Binary Systems.

More than the article, Im mostly writing this out of a sheer sense of realization than anything produced in the 21st century is rarely logical , original or truly revolutionary when you see it comes from someone that living in the "Real World" cries "Foul" to people that "live" in the "Virtual" one, yet fail to realize how they really are still part of the same system.

No one in this age is free of sin , and the first rock thrower is usually the one with the faster internet connection.

As a final note, please, please, take the time to digest this small snippet in the article, edged between two paragraphs inconspicuously

Ugh ... facepalm.jpg.

Im today in one of those moods that I really really, can´t read anything at face value and just sneer at the magnitude of hypocrisy we live surrounded with.

Am I the only one?

Also OP, thank you for the link, articles like those, are actually mind fuel.

Actually, thank Roger Ebert for the Tweeted Link. He's about a lot more than just movies.

Also, Neal Stephenson had great success with his Kickstarter for his Swordfighting MMO "Clang". http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/260688528/clang
