So I noticed this in the newly released patchnotes:

Sentry guns
Sentry guns will only respond to anyone who incurs a security status penalty in their vicinity.
A character with sentry aggression that leaves the vicinity (by warping away) and then returns will no longer be considered a target for sentry guns, unless he commits another illegal attack.
They will not respond to illegal aggressions that occurred elsewhere – Attacking another player at a belt or other site and then warping to a gate/station will now no longer result in sentry aggression.
Sentry guns will no longer attack drones, only ships

This is going to be a huge quality of life improvement for lowsec PvPers. Thoughts?

I'm not sure if I'm happy or sad that you cannot use cheap drones as chaff anymore.

The not blapping drones thing was a huge nerf towards Gallente.

Is a bit silly for Sentries to affect one race more than the others.

Drones would actually act as tank before. Gate guns would cycle around, and you may not take fire for several minutes. Without them, many small pie gangs may lose another ship or two.

Drone market may be affected?

I hate when GCC gets reset at every gate and station.

Are they going through with the gate guns gaining power over time change? I thought that idea got squashed. If not then frigs will still be instapopped on a gate.

As far as I know, it did.

But the new sentry mechanics make it possible to GCC in a belt and then warp to a gate afterwards without fear. Or for a heavy tackler (ex. Vengeance) to get the initial fast point for everyone else, warp off, and then come back.

Makes a huge difference for jumping around on small roams (particularly for frigates) rather than having to sit around for fifteen minutes.

I look forward to considering the myrmidon sub-par for reasons other than using drones.

this is one of the best changes ... the best would be complete removal of gateguns from lowsec, but I cannot have everything. Pirate frigate life for me :)

I like the idea of gate guns, but in lowsec I can understand them being "destroyed" or "mismanaged." I wouldn't mind seeing sentries on stations and sentry-free gates. Would fit with the RP, lore, and mechanics well I think.

Well i think best solution would be that in lowsec gate guns will have tracking. So use of frigs (incoming damage) will be tricky, but not impossible.

These changes are great. Fight anyone in a fw plex and don't even worry about the gate guns.

If you are really playing to pvp these changes make it very hard to justify staying in FW.

Advantages of being non-fw:

1) thousands more potential targets in your area
2) don't have to have alts spin buttons so you can continue to dock in your home bases. More access to more ships= more pvp opportunities and less time spent moving stuff around.
3) Can still grind isk doing fw missions with a pve alt.

Advantages of staying in faction war:

1) can keep orbiting button and have it count toward system and get lp
2) once they add the timer I am not sure if a pirate will show up as in the plex since I don't think he will trigger the timer.
3) Can pod other militia without sec hit below -5
4) Can attack other militia ships without going to -5.


For people who use the fw plexes for pvp leaving fw should almost double the number of fights you get for very little downside.

I kind of agree with you, the only thing i dont think you wil be able to do outside of FW is have fights on gates in small ships though which i enjoy allot (and by fights i mostly mean ganks) your small ships will stil get popped by gate guns. Awesome changes though

Good point, that i missed AndromacheDarkstar. I don't fight in small stuff on gates as much as I used to.

I'm still really thinking this through. Capping out at -5 (Which I am pretty much at anyway) and gate gun limits are really nice. I do so much plex warfare that i think that I would get allot more fights being able to fight both militias than I would from losing gate fights in small stuff to one side of the militia.

I think most people in fw are going to end up shooting neuts anyway so the -5 will be pretty standard. If you are at a warpin in a brawling ship and a neutral jumps in you had better scram him before he gets range.
