The players create the content, unfortunately most of the content they create sucks. Its usually one of two types. The first is typical and a snoozefest. The gate camp & gank. The second is the least nefarious yet equally boring dock and hide.

Unfortunately, CCPs refusal to fix local intel makes both of these contents the norm.

Without the players developing characters to fill the universe EVE would be empty and desolate. By virtue of these miscreants being the first inhabiters of New Eden they have provided a resource to CCP. Breath of life. And they've also provided financial support, through a paycheck, to the developers.

I'd say they've earned the right to be a guiding hand in the game.

There's some others:

Blob & primary
Structure & shooting
Local & smacking
Undock & nevering

I would say that players are more the stakeholders in the equation rather than shareholders.

Shareholders are typically interested in the profit and monetary return on their investment.

Stakeholders are typically interested in the success and features of the product or service.

I believe the answer lies in the fact that EVE has such a heavy buy-in as a game that we, as players, begin to think and act as stakeholders.

It really does.

Though sometimes clicking on ~random links~ in local can be amusing.

Well, players are, in essence, paying customers. They're not shareholders in the sense that they own a piece of the pie, or expect to benefit from it financially, customers are vastly more important than that. A company can survive with or without shareholders, just see CCP and Valve. A company cannot survive without customers. Which is, ironically, why so many games s(t)ink these days - developers listen to shareholders and big suits, not customers.

And it is good that players are passionate about the game. I'd rather have a customer criticize me, it still means there's a dialogue, means he's still interested. It's when the customer silently walks away or becomes indifferent that it's time to really worry. Which is precisely what the silent majority in any game player base does, and why so many game developers never see it coming. One day players are there - it is assumed that they're happy, and they don't say anything to disprove that - and the next day they're just...gone.

Ummm, I wouldn't go this far. Unless of course you buy into the publicity farce that is CSM, or events like FanFest where one of the hottest topics is FW and people come from all over the world for it, and the devs don't even show up for the discussion table like last year. I certainly wouldn't say they're better than anyone else in the business. There's gaming companies that have much better track record delivering working content, finding out what their customers want, and going with that. Instead of arbitrarily choosing a direction and going there, regardless of what players might think, like they did with Dust and PS3 exclusivity.

This is the only game where I have seen players rant in such a form. Maybe it is because you feel like they listen to your opinions, which they do. Or your investment means you hold an imaginary share in the company. All in all though it is just weird, stalker'ish at some points, and obsessive. Sure I care to what they do but it is just a game developer. It isn't like they are testing eve products out on animals or pushing religious dogma.

Because CCP asked us to be demanding and guide them?
