Essentially players can just wait in the newb areas, and every time a new player undocks, just places a bounty on their head.

Killing said newbies only gives you a fraction of the ship cost. You could suicide that Merlin but you are making 20000 ISK on a 2 Million ISK Thrasher hull loss. No one in their right mind is wardecing because they think they will be making profit off a newbie bounty. Basically if you are ganking / dec'ing newbies you are not doing it for the ISK, your the type of player who would be doing that anyway.

As for low / null sec the people who kill you there are going to kill you there no matter what age you are or what you have on your head because it is PvP Space and they'll hit any target they can beat.

Throw all the bounties on Newbie's you want they are meaningless from a profit standpoint.

Ok now I understand how it won't get out of hand, that makes a little more sense to me.

Thank you again I really appreciate your help.

I can see bounties being used as a means to limit the value of a ship a person is willing to fly.

For example if a guy is flying an orca value at 700M or so. Bounty would be 20% or 140M payout if the bounty was that high or higher on that character.

So assume that that bounty was 200+M on that character. Would he be willing to fly an orca?
Or will he fly around in cheap ships? Of course he could always kill his own orca to clear off 140M of that bounty, but it will cost him 560M extra to replace the orca.

Orca just used for an example could be any large expensive ship.

well you don't want to wait for them to undock.. you can place bounties on them (and anyone) while they're docked too!

Most likely the opposite. However, you may be faced with stern looks in the canteen.

Hmm.

If I understand this correctly...

I can camp a gate and wait for a good ship..say and Obelisk, have my confederate place a 100k bounty on the pilot then suicide gank ('cause therre is no kill right) an expensive ship for 20% of its billion isk value. A bunch of cheap ships expended but the Final Blow player shares the Bounty around with his ganking pals.

kool.

And how long will the game last with this mechanism in place?

Nope, If you put 100k isk bounty on a billion isk value ship and gank it all you get is up to 20% of the billion isk value. Which would be up to 200 million. However you only put 100k bounty on it. So you get 100k and thats it. His bounty remaining drops to zero as you cleared it all off.

If you put 100k bounty on a ship with a value of 100k. Then ganked that ship you would get 20k isk bounty paid out. The remaining 80k bounty would still be on the head of the pilot of that (100k ship).

Hmm now that does bring up a interesting question.

Now you are not allowed to harrass new players in the newbie zones.
So if you put a bounty on a newbie player and someone else collects it then who gets in trouble ?

Just wondering cause I know someone is going to try it sadly...

I remember when the forums moved to Eve Gate, people asked "Why no dislike button, only like button?" Guess CCP thought it would be funnier if the new bounty system became a way of "disliking" someone for all their forum shenanigans...Twisted

"Tomahawks?"

"----in' A, right?"

"Trouble is, those things cost like a million and a half each."

"----, you pay me half that and I'll hump in some c4 and blow the ---- out of it my own damn self."

Alternatively, people will actually start fitting DCUs.

Nope, bounty hunters hunt people for bounty, there is no requirement for any law to be involved. In our modern civilised world it has come to mean this simply because only governments (well the us government, most countries have officials to do these things ...) are allowed to legally pay for someones apprehension. Given that it has always been the players paying the bounty in eve rather than concord, and given that apprehension was never the aim it was never really a bounty system like that anyway, it was more like the bounties set by land owners or companies to protect their assets. Those ranged against anything from natives (native american, aboriginies whatever) to suspected petty criminals (castle rustlers for example) or general undersirables (gypsys, jews) and often had no legal backing whatsoever.

Pretty sure if the bounty is high enough no one will care. Put a billion ISK on someone's head and people will happily feed alts in cheap gank ships to CONCORD just to collect on it.
