And it apparently only functions part of the time with you. That's another item to add to the list.

I find it fulfilling, meaning I personally feel a sense of achievement and enjoyment when I help people and see them do well, and as a trainer, this is what I've done in the past.

It's not his personal fault, just a lack of intellectual capacity.

Some people are just born with a lack of oxygen, chromosomal disorders or are just plainly stupid and they shouldn't be discriminated for that.

Text apprehension is difficult for some - instead of ostracising people for it, we should offer them a helping hand.

I'm disgusted with your disdainful stance towards the mentally challenged and suggest you review your hateful view.

Falcon is my favourite dev and if you check thoroughly, he's clearly capable of tyipng, so he can't possibly be an idiot.

You're right, I should warn them!

Dear CCP-

Should you happen to have chodes like Micheal Dietrich working for you, I probably will not be able to get along with said chodes, you see I have something called a sense of humor. I like to see people enjoying their day and how else to enjoy life but to laugh. It's an easy disposition to understand, I'm sure you do as well. Unfortunately there are complete morons who aren't at all interested in this type of behavior, they prefer to tell everyone how stupid something comical is, like everyone doesn't already know, and somehow people will think they're intellectually superior for pointing it out, over, and over, and over, until people don't want to watch them embarrass themselves anymore and leave. Thus destroying all positive emotions and possible future lolz. I would prefer to work for a company without these chodes as they corrode my creative spirit as well as my desire to work together in a team setting.

Go for it man. Everybody has the choice of just sitting there and existing, or taking a chance and trying something different. It's like The Hero's Journey that Joseph Campbell found in all of the mythology from around the world. The protagonist is in a humble background, unappreciated, headed nowhere. Then he faces something that causes him to make a decision: sit back and stay the same, or accept the challenge and head out into the big risky world. In the myths, the guy always takes the challenge. Then he faces some crises along the way, defeats them, and finally discovers that he was a king/dragonslayer/Jedi master all along.

That's The Hero's Journey. All of the old myths from all human cultures have it. So according to J. Campbell, achieving the The Hero's Journey is the universal aim of the human psyche.

Not quite.

He really found that, human beings have a belief they are unbalanced equations and so create stories that deal with this. What happens is they get stuck in a perpetual vis-à-vis with themselves and their imagination paints pretty pictures that get a handle on things.

Freud put this into a psychoanalytical model of the id, ego and super-ego. Basically the same thing of the mind trying to balance an equation that begins just after puberty, when the need to hunt, kill, gather, copulate goes into overdrive and the ego can't get its way: the super-ego becomes the parental figure to the id and the ego.

The id makes you want to kill someone
The ego tries to make that happen in a way that doesn't mess up your life.
The super-ego tells both of them to STFU and go pirate, you big emotional carebear - but later lets you 'dream it out'.

My take on 'it' for storytelling can be found here.

My advice to the op is: you're unhappy, so remove the things in your life that are making you this way.

I understand, that’s why I apologized a couple of posts down.

I failed to appreciate that he was expressing a sense of enjoyment for helping people until he actually said so. My bad. Blink

Lovely thread..

The Grass is always greener for everyone..

Hell, I fly and teach people how to fly UAVs for a living and I wish I could find something better.

Perfect example right? Fly remote control airplanes all day, teach a few classes, do a few online courses required by my employer and then go home and rub elbows in space..

I wish.

I teach for the USMC and fly for whoever my command sends me out to fly for. Just wish I was still active duty, better vacation time.

So when I think of travel abroad, highway through the danger zone RC style, and high fives you probably think ****** weather, crappy hotel rooms/bunks, and boring powerpoints while repeating yourself 30 times for each step?
