I was under the impression that many things they did for Incarna actually laid the groundwork for walking in stations. Modular captains quarters and modular shops, walkways, etc. I was sort of expecting WiS to come with a POS revamp.

How much actual work is left? Forget ring mining for the summer expansion, let's get our stations revamped along with the ability to walk around in them.

And the same system that is used for modular stations should be used for POS structures, outposts, and every structure in the entire game. Obviously this task is bigger than just one expansion, so not all stations and structures are replaced in the game upon release, but rather the expansion is released with only a few stations redesigned to be modular. Then every 3 months or so a patch is released with a few more NPC structures.

The character creation EVE uses is groundbreaking. Really, the work CCP has done so far is amazing. I would hate to see it go to waste, or sit idle for the next two years.

And besides that ,the normal thing to do next was to open that door.
For Ghazu and the other barbie obsessed people ,i want meaningful gameplay within WIS.
but without opening that door ,WIS is useless.
You can cry about gameplay all you want, but the door needs to have a function.
And don,t come up with recourses,Dust has a lot of recourses directed from EvE already.

Open the door and do what?

what ever WIS makes possible and i am not talking about dancing

I think the missions are the oldest of EVE content, WiS could add missions for avatars. They could also create new professions, how to crack computers to steal information or money. Or some kind of fights, chessboxing with stakes and stuff. Things a actual capsuleer would do outside his pod.

Anything but make the soldier and go to shooting in a station instead of sending cannon fodder to do it for him.

Even the to buy contraband could be used, not a bad idea.

The case is add stuff to play that are not the same thing is already.

It depends who you ask. In a recent interview (Nov 10, 2012), CCP Chief Marketing Officer said this:

"That’ll happen once the MMO’s avatar system is out in place.

“That is exactly the idea,” Reid said. “Your DUST marine can walk into a station and meet an EVE avatar, and rather than negotiate a contract over text chat, you could do it ‘virtually in person.’”

This also includes the addition of “space elevators,” which will allow players to travel to the DUST 514 battleground or onto an EVE space station, when playing either title.

Such links between the two games won’t occur until DUST 514′s open beta, which is scheduled for sometime in early 2013."

But this is also the guy who said Dust is "definitely coming in summer 2012"...sooo...take it for what it's worth.

I can see it now; we'll be like some kind of zoo exhibit for DUST players. They can leave the battle and go look at the strange capsuleers pacing nervously behind glass. Lol

That's an interesting and positive quote you've found there, right up to the part about "space elevators"! I'd buy the concept of automated planet to station shuttles (complete with animation, of course) but not elevators lol

Interesting concept though, being able to meet DUST mercs face to face. Would certainly bring more meaning to WiS, even if not actual gameplay.

Why not?

It's a real concept here on earth; one that is considered a real possibility in the future for the transport of goods to and from earth.

Accepting that a discussion about "space elevators" is a purely academic one and in the grand scheme of things, doesn't really matter... Smile

The planets of Eve vary hugely in size and the orbiting stations are, in theory, far too distant from the planets surface to be a practical option. The orbit of a station around a planet would have to be much closer for the required structures to survive.

It would also mean that to go to a particular part of a particular planet, you would have to go to a specific station, whereas a shuttle could be more flexible and fly to any orbiting station.

Planetary bombardment, or any proximate ground warfare, could and probably would accidentally destroy a "space elevator" mechanism.

In fact, the more I think about it the more I just don't see it working. The concept of mercs logging in and starting in an orbiting station and then flying in a drop ship to the planets surface seems perfectly plausible (and is what has been shown so far I believe) and I guess they could escape back to the station using those same drop ships. Is DUST going to have non-destructible structures on the surface for mercs to erm, 'dock' in, where a space elevator might exist in safety? Not owning a PS3 I simply don't know this answer.

However it is implemented, Eve players and DUST players being able to meet face to face is a cool idea and should definitely come in a future expansion. Big smile

Just to add to the above:

Accepting the points I've made above, I'd probably accept the concept of a space elevator if it was between fixed peaceful parts of a planet.

DUST is about a planetary war zone though and I don't see a permanent structure and one as relatively delicate as a space elevator being practical in a war zone. It also lacks the flexibility of getting to different areas of the planet.

hmmm maybe not a permanent elevator ,but a ship with a elevator module .
the elevator module would make this ship fragile to attacks and has to be protected

I think that introducing WiS content with modular units for the new POSes would be a fantastic idea. Really looking forward tot he new POS system. If it came with WiS stuff as-well that would be doubly awesome.

I've been playing the Dust514 beta at least once a day since the release of the most recent build Chromosome, and without spilling the NDA I can say that the core mechanics and gameplay have become really tight. If CCP has developed it correctly like they had talked about how Carbon is developed, then this underlying architecture can be ported to PC and added to EVE.

Imagine hacking and archeology sites that had to both be hacked by a ship, but more important materials (required for Dust clones) and other goodies had to be retrieved from inside the site itself.

So I decided to dream a little, and here's what I'm thinking......

Roles:

  • Scientist/Archeologist - very fragile, suit similar to Prometheus, and you can use an array of scientific devices and also a small pistol firearm.

  • Security - Range of security suits similar to Dust's assault class. The idea here is that you need someone able to carry an AR or other type of weapon, but these are close quarters with rogue drones, alien life, and other capsuleers to worry about.

Threats:

  • Aliens!!! I'm trying to think of a logical way that aggressive alien threats would be in abandoned archaeological locations. Perhaps as a classic "testing facility gone horribly wrong" scenario, and you need to read through the bloodstained science notes to find out you're not all alone in that room. Idunno, there's lots of quasi-believable ways to bring blood-thirsty creatures into the EVE universe.

  • Perhaps a forgotten ancient colony of mutated escaped Minmatar?

  • Early Sansha prototype zombies?

  • A jove scientist searching for a cure goes mad and creates many "sites" across the eve universe where he traps people and capsuleers. We can try to rescue them, and find jove tech.

  • Rogue drones....of course.

  • NPC pirates (or let's hope by then pirate corps are factions)

  • Other capsuleers - are you going to band together to survive, or are you going to fight each other?

Some Thoughts:

  • Are others able to destroy your ship while you're gone? No, because when you click the "board structure" option it causes you to leave your ship flying to the structure in a pod or quick little transport. Your ship then flies off to a random spot in space, similar if you log off without aggression. When you leave the structure it will automatically call your ship back. This means you won't be able to board a structure while being aggressed.

  • Solo or group play? I think both should be possible. It's why science suits should be able to carry a small weapon, which for most easy sites should be fine. Certain more expensive science suits can be armored providing some protection.

  • Clone storage units. Say you need a certain ship to transport your clones in case one dies. Make certain sites able to install clone storage modules before you enter the site. This can lead to other improvements, like portable lights, etc. Just like I would imagine a real archaeological dig to look like. My main thought is that it would be a pain every time you died to end up back at a station. Perhaps you can respawn in your pod in your ship (that's been flying off-grid until needed)?

  • This combat mechanic does open up the possibilities of areas on stations that are more seedy, like Mass Effect's Omega station, or on the planets themselves? It really opens up possibilities of where the Eve universe can extend.

that much for CCP listening to at least a part of the community.
i really hope it is a very small part of the community ,but reading the latest WIS related post about WIS,that part is a lot bigger then everybody expected

Hello again,

Thirdly, Team Avatar wished to publish a dev blog that showed the prototype that we worked on so that players who couldn't attend Fanfest got a chance to see it as well. This blog was delayed due to the team being re-focused and what eventually came out was a message from Unifex instead.
It would be nice to still publish this at some point.

So when? do we still have to wait ,until some drunk fest?
