With press reports (except the MSN marketing schpiel) not favoring Windows 8, what is the EvE community experience with specifically EvE and Windows 8?

QuestionDo you fall into the Windows M8 or Windows H8 categoryQuestion

I think the next couple years should work out very well...for Linux.

Maybe CCP will consider a Linux version of EVE again?

I'll stick to Win7. It works too. (@ Julius Priscus)

I see no Return on Investment to upgrade.

I find it amusing how Windows has a cycle of releasing a bad successor to its OS... then a good one... then a bad one... then a good one again.

I swear, it seems almost intentional.

Or maybe this is the cause?

typical windows release cycle,

win 2k good
win ME bad
win XP good
win Vista bad
win 7 good
win 8 not too bad once you lose the metro interface but still not good

@shahfluffers +1 for the xkcd link

M8 or H8 and W8

I like it, clever :D

No opinion on 8 myself, haven't had any experience with it, but based on the reviews and such I prob wont get it.

Still using windows XP, awesome OS for simple tasks like gaming, using internet, data managment and storage, not so much cons, well i cant play battlefield 3 on it but is ok... most great games still using or support dx9...Windows 8, no thanks.

EvE isn't game, its style of living.

Using it on working machine and gaming PC. Works fine, no big issues with any games.

I understand why ppl complain about the new Windows, but it's just that something is uncommon. It's faster, as reliable as Win7. No need to upgrade from Win7, but also perfect if you buy new hardware and get it for free.

Any "alt-tabbers" out there that have windows 8?

Like to hear if you get DCed every time you do that.

I could always install eve on the kids Windows 8 machine, but how do I keep them
Interested in Minecraft after seeing eve spaceships on their machine?

Edit: this is a question concerning state management in windows 8

There are good ships,

And wood ships,

And ships that sail the sea

But the best ships are Spaceships

I think 2k was ntfs before ntfs systems officially replaced fat32 systems for general home use (introduced with XP). I replace that with Win98SE for the correct cycle.

No plans for win8 here, not until win9 which falls into the correct working cycle (every other OS). Hope win9 ditches the metro crud, I already have jelly bean.

Maybe get them a nexus 7 for Christmas? Minecraft has taken #1 top selling android game for quite some time at google play, only replaced by angry birds star wars as #1 recently. It's quite good actually, though I'm looking forward to caverns being added at some point.

Fair point 98 was pretty good, it's still a mainstay of my PC fixing toolkit, especially with some of the old crap I get to fix.

I like the look of jellybean I'm considering a Nexus 7. Unfortunately neither ICS or JB will run on my phone, cyanogenmod 7 is the latest stable release for it but there's no way I'm changing the indestructabrick.

98 was rough, 98SE was good. Win95(good) -> Win98(bad) -> Win98SE(good)
The branch was NT3 -> NT4 -> Win2000; for work group NTFS / Server NTFS.
Work group ntfs merged with FAT32 OS's while server ntfs went to server editions.
At least that's my understanding of it. I don't think the rule applies to pre-XP ntfs systems, as I luv linux servers and all ntfs systems pre-XP sux imo.

BTW there are some excellent linux distros for PC fixing, obviously since they are live CD's and can run directly on the damaged windows system w/o need for a diagnostic card if not physically damaged extensively.

I thought win8 had like a mode that WAS windows 7, either way, I don't want windows 8, I really like win7 it does everything I want it too and things seem to run fine, even some of the older games I play ( total annihilation, roller coaster tycoon 3, ect)

I just checked my disk, it is indeed 98SE, as for the linux distros I use them as well as the slightly naughty Hirens CD, UBCD and UBCD4win. 98SE is still pretty handy for making the odd boot floppy/cd that adds USB booting to machines without bios support for it, especially as most of my fixit kit is on a usb stick, I tend to keep the Live CDs as ISO images and just rework the stick once in a while.

I can understand why most people shun Linux.

They really want something one step up from an Xbox.

Wonder if Steams 'Big Picture' can change all that?

At first I hated 8. Now I've become familiar with where everything is again I don't really mind it. It hasn't really done anything new compared to 7 though.

You guys need to stfu. Win8 is better than 7 in every conceivable way!

Disk read/write speeds are faster, you can now pause file copying/moving, the ui is more responsive, the OS uses available hardware better and more efficiently, boot and shutdown times are less than half what they were in 7, networking has been improved thus browsing and downloading is now faster.

But yeah, go ahead spreading misinformation and talking right out of your asses with complete disregard for facts.
