Help with the paradox of EvE?

Thanks again everyone.

I've got some nice points to research now and more importantly, a general idea of the direction and play style I'm aiming for.

Solo play will probably be more practical for me short term while I get my head around the mechanics of PvP. Just need to work on a steady income while I do that, which will probably be mission running or something else.

I'm sure I'll hit points where more people will help but I'll see how fun the journey is until I reach that point Smile

Check out exploration (see this thread where I made several posts that will help you), it's good income, less grindy, requires a few more braincells and teaches you several different things which will all be useful later on.

I should have put a link to explain the API stuff : http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/API_Security

Also yes, it's very possible to play alone, if you like to learn by yourself.
I'm a lone wanderer, it's how i enjoy the game, and if i'm maybe not as "effective" as traditional corpos, i find myself very "effective" in the sense that i have fun Smile
Where you could perhaps really struggle alone is if you decide to become industrialist and wish to produce complicated stuff... but i'm no specialist of this aspect of the game, so maybe i'm wrong.

No worries about the API link, but thanks for posting that.

I supposed it's as much about me looking for information as it is people pointing me in the right direction.

If you're looking at surviving as a solo player and doing a bit of PVP now and then, you might consider the ninja/high sec piracy life style. Once you know what you're doing, you can make plenty of ISK doing those sorts of things and most of us are either loners, or at best very small groups. Contrary to mission runner and miner beliefs, there is no "gang of ninjas" waiting too jump them should they aggress. Usually, just one guy who'll swap to an actual PVP ship and return for the fight (occasionally, they actually are fights). You can always move off to Low/Null/WH space once you get bored of shooting people with hilarious fits (for some players, it never grows old tbh).

At any rate, if you'd like to learn how to make it on your own without joining RvB or FW (both large entities, but a fine place to learn the basics of PVP), drop me a line in game.

As an main profession in Industry myself.

That too is possible as a solo player. Though up to a certain point where for some things multiple characters (yes, characters, not persons) help. This means it can still be done solo, but alts do help (more production slots, more research slots, more PI planets for POS fuels).

The only thing you will have a really really hard time with as a solo industrial (as it's practically impossible) is to build supercapitals. Those require SOV and a POS to be build at. SOV holding solo is practically impossible, let alone defend that tower when some other SOV entity thinks it should be removed by showing force (dropping capitals on it).
