I just read a thread about the Jessica tool. I want it! Come off it ccp, or let us make a mod for the purpose. I am pretty underwhelmed by the "advanced" camera tools. I'd like to make you guys free eve trailers and such. Help me help you.

I think eve is such a beautiful game. being able to do things like track a missile or auto orbit a ship with the camera would be so helpful. A camera ship wouldn't hurt either.

I've got only 1 word for you: the next expansion will bring a lot of improvements towards the camera functionality. Feel free to read about the next expansion before writing stuff in the forums and asking for already planned tools.

It's not what you think it is.

Each expansion trailer takes an entire team months of work, with years of experience in compositing shots. There is a vid on their youtube channel explaining this.

It would be more productive if you were to jump onto SiSi and Fraps ships blowing up. That's what Zond3 did; that's what Dire Lauthris did - and out of that we got EVE Never Fades and The Day of Darkness.

I doubt they would ever release the tool outside of their realm of influence anyway; too much IP tech inside it.

Badass! This next expansion better not end up like Incarne. Sounds a bit too good to be true atm.

Well what you say makes perfect sense. It just sucks that if I write a script to control the camera, they'll ban me. I understand why though. Cheaters should be publicly castrated imo. =) Maybe I'll make a trailer to eve and embarrass ccp. I doubt I could stay focused long enough. You know I never even considered using sisi to make pvp scenes. duh.

It's worth considering using SiSi - just to practice editing alone. Get a cloaked ship and go to one of the fighting zones and Fraps a few TB's of footage.

Switch off brackets etc, drop the res to 1280x720/800 and you'll get pretty smooth footage. ENF was frapsed at 640x512, DoD was 840x524, which I believe was half res of 1650x1080 rounded down, if memory serves.

You could also ask/rally support for 'actors' to basically fly around for you and do fly-bys etc (Kyoko Sakoda's "War has Come") - but there are other options to making EVE footage if you are willing, involving learning a Machinima program like Source film-maker, UDK Matinee (used for Dust514 trailers currently and was used for Kale Ryoko's "Future Proof"). Both of these options are FoC, but you gotta extract the models from EVE using Tri-Exporter, import them into whichever tool you are using and then create the backdrops/cubemaps, and of course create a new series of particle systems to simulate any effects like engine trails etc.

If you really, really have something impressive like a top-of-the-line storyboard using 3/3 format combining screenshots of ships (click the enlarge button of a ship and hit PrtScr) and descriptions with a quality letter/email to the marketing department, who knows what assistance they might be willing/able to offer you?

I export models pretty regular using triexporter and I've used UDK though I prefer blender for all things 3d and I am ok with After Effects. Ur dead on with having to store a **** ton of footage. I recorded 1hour the other day and it was 25gigs. I use camtasia studio for screen recording. Doing it all in 3d programs would be hard as hell and time consuming, but great for a few close up shots. Whats better yet is I could keep the alpha and put the ship back into a video of the eve environment.

You've given me a lot to think about. Thanks. Now all I need is a Brit with a nice voice. lol

Sisi is very useful for recording footage, and I have considered it for a fan video that I want to start making in the coming months. The one obvious advantage that the Jessica build gives the user, is the ability to create huge, organized, and coordinated fights (like from the Dominion, Inferno, and Quantum Rise trailers.) Additionally smoother camera movements are another upside.

Sometimes making a good video means being able to adjust the angles and velocities of ships by decimals of units. Doing it live action whether with 'actors' (corpmates) or a host of alts, is much harder than loading up Jessica, deciding to spawn in a hundred thousand titan pilots, and have them shoot snowballs at eachother (which by the way is completely impossible even by sisi's high standards.)

All in all a public version of Jessica that players are able to use to make FREE MARKETING for EVE that'll bring MORE PLAYERS WILLING TO PLAY FOR LONG PERIODS OF TIME would be something that I know that CCP has considered.

Hopefully soon they'll decide to make a build publicly available. I think I'd make a hundred videos just showing off how awesome the Chimera looks if I was able to.

CCP Dropbear: rofl

edit: ah crap, dev account. Oh well, official rofl at you sir.

Some of the trailers you've listed there took a team of 5 people, 3 months, full-time to create - and they had the back up and support of software engineers and lots of equally smart people.

There is a reason why some of CCP's trailers have lots of ship flying in straight lines...

If CCP were to expend time and money to create a tool which made the creation of marketing elements easier, do you not think they would have done so now, after ten years?

Sorry, but you can caps-lock all you want, this developer tool is never going to leave the premises, and, is never going to get a re-packaged consumer version. Ever.

PS: It is very hard to create a case for something like this if you do not have anything to barter with. If you believe you have a talent for framing, composition, cinematography, pacing, editing - then show off your skills and upload it to evefiles for everyone (including CCP) to see. Until that happens, all you are explaining are images inside your head and therefore they have no form, and cannot be used in a discussion to argue - because what you forsee is assumed knowledge based on what is inside your imagination.

If you think you have something which would work in CCP's favour, then create a class storyboard using screenshots from EVE, and a shooting script, possibly with a synopsis for the TL:DR mindset, and fire off an email to them. I'm not attacking you but until you do something like this, CCP are not going to rush off a copy to you because for all they know you would sit on it forever because it was too hard to learn.

IF you are truly serious about making films etc, then you will listen to my words of advice and so something filmic and positive, if not, then CCP will class you as another person who wants something, without knowing anything about it. Drag and drop, it is not.
