Just out of curiosity.. Does anyone know the lore behind eve sound?

Since obviously sound doesn't travel through empty space.. Is it virtually generated in the pod? I'm not much into the whole fluff thing but i'm curious.

"As you know there is no sound in space, but when we were developing the capsules we found that people wanted to use as many of their senses as possible, thus we added the sound. By letting a computer create three dimensional sound we also add to the awareness you have while in battles, for instance."

As a veteran who played with sound, it saddens me a bit to hear the music will go to the cloud. "...But Still We Go On" is the first thing I always heard when I log into eve. That welcoming music was part of the routine that kept me grounded. I understand the reasoning, and Eve is all about reasoning and cold numbers. As I listen to the music now though (on sound cloud), I am reminded that all things change, and Eve should be no exception.

My sincere hope is that the music team can come up with tracks of the quality that these old legacy tracks had. Bash the old music all you want. It has been there for a long time, and I've always loved listening to it. I'm glad that the option to listen to it in the cloud is there just in case the music team cocks it up. Actually, I think it would be great if we could hear more samples as they are developed from the music team. You could put those on sound cloud too.

Weird, my client will always plays "Miner Stories" first.

All the old music still plays in hi-sec, and different songs for different situations/locations. Try to hear them all.

Ah, for some reason, I read that the music itself - not just the system of presenting it was changing... Teaches me to read dev blogs before my coffee has had a chance to cool a bit...

Carry on!

Oh, can we please please please have a special creepy atmo flavour sound that is played when a cloaked ship is slowboating towards one's ship?
More precisely: that will be played _most times_ when a cloaky is approaching and sometimes for no reason at all.

Love it!

Asteroid is depleted

The turret sounds alone will add a unique perspective to fighting and definitely make the engagement process more meaningful.

will it play ride of the valkyries if i fly awesome enough?

edit: the buckingham build has still a jukebox. Buckingham or it did not happen!

how to fix eve: 1) remove ECM 2) rename dampeners to ECM 3) add new anti-drone ewar for caldari 4) give offgrid boosters ongrid combat value

I'm surprised no one has stumbled across this yet.

I am seriously considering turning my sound on after this patch...

Cool! I look forward to the new turret sounds. Are jump sounds getting changed too? Not the gate sounds but the sound that's played when the jump effect is displayed around your ship, I really hate that echoey weird sound that sounds like a photon torpedo shot from the original Star Trek series....

A suggestion that I haven't seen yet is maybe you could add sounds to drones when you give them commands. I image them sort of like the Imperial probe droid from The Empire Strikes Back, unintelligible but sounds like mechanical language in a short burst that confirms the command given by the pilot. Could also add drone language warnings for the different health states, as long as they're not too pronounced they could be useful to the attentive drone user that memorizes the sounds. Drones have some AI, so it follows that they would try to communicate to their capsuleer if they're in trouble.

Being a self-important audio engineer myself, is there anyyyyy chance CCP can enable an HQ audio option? I simply cannot stand the 128kbps mp3 compression applied to the music, as I usually play with head phones on.

I realize this would eat up some computer processor/ram stuff, but as with graphics, it'd be nice to have the option.

Also, remix competition on a song. My vote is for Below The Asteroid.

Music is compressed by a modified .ogg encoder provided by our sound engine and I use much less than 128kbps Smile

Changing the compression would mean bigger client download, it should cost the same processor time to decode and no RAM since all the music is streamed from the harddrive.

By this do you mean that an up-front additional lengthening of the client download time is too big a trade-off for improved fidelity in the score? I see that you've said you use much less compression than 128kbps, but my ears usually cannot register 320kbps or at least high VBR mp3's, yet I can clearly hear the compression on the score. So would there be an option to modify the .ogg encoder to allow for 320kbps mp3s instead? Should still be a relatively low download time for the audio portion.

Also, do you guys use your own proprietary audio implementation system, or is it Wwise or Fmod?

I'm looking forward to this.

You might reach out to William Romanowski, the guy behind the video game Tranquility. Everything in that game was dynamically generated, including the music, and the music followed the mathematical formulae used to generate the colors and patterns for each dynamic level. It was an amazing thing, and I'm sad that it didn't make it.

tbh removing the jukebox is yet another reason to completely turn off sounds.

So glad I got all of CCP RealX's ABSOLUTE BEST SONGS on my winamp! <3333 RealX

Another reason why the jukebox is also good is because it doesn't need streaming/downloading the tracks. For someone playing on a dialup/mobile broadband that's in many cases a dead give to turn it off bc of bandwidth limitations.

great news, i fully support all the proposal.

just two thought tho (might have been proposed in previous posts)

1- special arrangement of music in system which have seen lot of death => bring this for lowsec too please

2- capacitor warning => please make the warning level customizable, 30% can suit some fitting while being a pain in the butt on others using cap boosters , trigerring it too often.

also one question, regarding gate sounds:

since there are several gate races and size, could the sounds being linked to that, this would make a lot of sense

would not be a great idea, the spamming sound when a fleet enter a system would be so anoying

When your ship is idle, zoom all the way on it. You will hear tympanies slowly beating.

For a while figured it was only Amarr ships but I can hear it on Gallente ships also.

Not a diplo.
