I haven't used sound in eve consistently since my second month. I'll occasionally turn it on, and will usually miss some vent communication and turn it off again for another few months or so. Maybe with soundcloud I'll be able to have sound mute when people are speaking on vent, will have to play around. I actually like the tracks, it helps pass the time while camping, and are so distinctly EvE. Except "Below the asteroids", that song will always be "Clear Skies" to me. Big smile

Team Klang is one of the most awesome things that has happened in this game for years! First major focus on sound since Apocrypha (that's winter 2009, folks), and is long over due in my opinion.

It's all good in my ears, but I wouldn't like it if the skill training/mission completed events would get music. I would prefer Aura saying her stuff. "Good job, pilot." fits the game a lot better than some tune that might want to make me kill myself if I hear it for the millionth time, + I think the jingle could be an immersion breaker.

Is there any chance of a "realism mode" which would turn all space sounds off and adjust to sound like vibrations from the hull of the interior of the ship to the goo in the capsule?

I know this might sound boring, but i kind of like the idea of hearing some sort of spinning spool up sound as a shield takes damage and approaches optimal recharge rate, then slows down again as is overwhelmed; as well as moaning superstructure and hissing air leaks as the hull starts to take damage and warp apart.

not to mention fizzing lasers and the general crash of missiles and artillery against the hull every few seconds

Torfi - I'm a huge fan and this sound upgrade is the best new thing since trails returned. Sound is sooo important to how I play EVE.

1. Planet sounds - love the idea of near planet hearing. I often listen to them while I work - great background noise.
2. Cap alarm - great idea, adjustable please.
3. "Mission done" sound - Brilliant, good for new people. Also put something in the mission pallet (that sits under waypoints.) Color it green when objectives complete or something.
4. I miss the old coming out of cloak sound.

FIX
1. PLEASE cool the cyno jump sound. It's WAY WAY to loud. I can't hear critical orders if I have the sound on.
2. Dance Techno Mission songs are bad vibe. Happy to see those go.

SUGGEST
Occasional voice signal sound (like gate or station communication noises). Map it to someone entering your system or entering wormhole space... if anything pilots would pick up distorted space comms occasionally.

Maybe an occasional distress call pulling you into a random mission or complex. Something like an audio beacon that you can lock and investigate - this can call solo pvpers into impromptu matches if they choose to investigate. just an idea.

Love the incredible work CCP does for us. Thanks very much for improving stuff even before we start asking for it. Those are usually the Best parts of the expansions.

Is there any way to get the music at the login screen to initially obey they "music level" slider in the menu? Rather anoying to have to turn my speakers down every time i log in...then have to turn them back up after i hit 'esc' or login...

And again, how did this get past the In-house design testing before it was even put in the build?

Also, for the love of all that is sacred, thankyou for FINALLY getting rid of the undock sounds. Though you still have that blasted "PVE flag" sound occurring every single session change. (dock/undock/gate-jump) Haven't tested the PVP flag yet though, i imagine it will also likely repeat every session change as well.

The new gate sounds still sound like a Vent or TS glitch and not something that someone put in intentionally to make an experience better...which it doesn't really. Adding new gate-jump sounds to make a long freighter trip 'less boring' is the worst idea i've ever heard. (as well as a huge waste of dev time)

Edit--

Any way we could get sounds separated a bit more...like "station environment sounds" and "NPC rat sounds"...i have to turn the environment sounds down so much to avoid those (and the irritating active module sounds) that i can't really hear any of the turrets or hit effects...

Frequence of Audio Tracks

Can I ask for an option / slider which you can use to adjust the abundance of music being played within EVE , please?

I personally find it quite tedious if music is constantly playing ... nonstop ... for hours when you are online that long. I think most games and many movies make this mistake to clog the whole enterntainment experience with constant music play. Turning music off is the only option I have in EVE now, if I don't like this constant bombardment. But a little slider (or any other option) which defines how often music is played, would work wonders. After doing so, you can combine it with event based music play, which is available for some missions already. Imagine you fly through space, no music playing for the last 15min but with all the working sounds around you (ship humming, effects from modules, gate sounds) , then you get to an acceleration gate for a mission site and suddenly dramatic music starts to play! Or you participate in one of those endless and boring gate camps, with nothing to do than chatting with your friends or sending around drones, and after some time your jukebox comes alive and plays a song for your to cheer you up.

These changes have my blessing... Perhaps you could include all of the eve MP3 tracks with the game when it gets installed. I don't do much streaming from the internet, but would still like to have easy access to the tracks for my playlists on my HDD...

it should play really intense music

(thinking sweat-inducing ambient effects)

when first entering camped systems

thinking a 30 second interlude that fades back to standard music when done

I hope you havent forgot the option button to switch sounds off differentiated, when you dont want to hear them anymore.
eg. the planet sounds when doing PI is wrecking my nerves.

Might be hard to accept for you as a sound team, but i have family in my house, sleeping in night, a headset while chatting on TS and some sounds i really dont want to hear anymore after a while.
So SOME sounds i really want to shut off while others i always want to hear, but not so loud.
Give us always the option to decide what we want to hear and what not.
Thanks.

CCP, would it be possible to put the deadspace/mission tracks on soundcloud?

For example

Eve Rock 1, Eve Rock 2, Eve Rock 3

Caldari 1, Caldari 2, Caldari 3

Gallente 1, Gallente 2, Gallente 3

etc....

I have them ripped from the game but it would be nice to have them on soundcloud aswell.

Is it my understanding, that in EVE you are a pilot of spaceship, which fly into space. And since there are no sounds in space - how can I hear a sound that is not from my ship, but from explosions outside, turents and stuff like that? Isn't it required for the sound to travel in some kind of mediun (hence media), beside the vacum of space?

I'd really love to be able to hear the sounds of my own ships' turrets, launchers, other types of devices, engines, but I'd really love to not hear any sound that do not have a direct connection to my ship (if I'm useing the ingame voice service with other pilots it will be ok to hear some of the sounds they hear, but not the engines of a nearby spaceship or rocket, or fireing turret on another ship. And is'n the music supposed o be played from the computer, and not the place I'm near?

What is the sound of a planet heared from low orbit - I have no clue, but I'll bet it's a really quiet one.

The lore explanation is that the onboard computer synthesizes the sounds for you, as an additional way to relay information.

I know that the jukebox has gone away.

Having the ability to turn in-station music on or off or to adjust the volume of it would be appreciated. This is especially true when running more than one client.

Thank you.

Edit...
OK, so I found the volume control in the Esc menu (which is different than the Eve menu). Still, I'd like to know where this noise is coming from so that I can block it in my hosts file or firewall.

It's possible to convert the radio waves that planets emit to sound. Just google "planet sounds" and you'll find youtube vids and stuff where you can hear that.

Hey guys,

Just logged into the new expansion and a lot of the new features are great. I thought I had been pretty up on the new content but had been unaware of the removal of the Jukebox and new ambient music.

I think this is a big mistake. Don't get me wrong the people producing the music are talented but it is not my thing at all. I've been playing for almost three years now and I've had my own playlists going the entire time since the in-game music drives me.

Why on earth would you remove a feature like the Jukebox? It was not hurting the games overall cohesion. If anything for some of us it was increasing graphic/audio cohesion. Nothing like listening to some Led Zepplin or Explosions in the Sky while out ratting/pvping/mining.

It should definitely be brought back with the option to use either or. Anyway that's my opinion.

Fly safe!

Oh and yes I know I can mute and just play music from iTunes or YouTube, but it was a nice little feature that didn't seem to be hurting any other system in the game and kept control within the game. Plus I could have separate playlists right in the game! :P

Now that you have removed the jukebox button from the game i have no reason to have sound on. Seriously if you can "waste code" bringing back both inventory systems they why the heck did you not bother keeping the stupid jukebox button?
