The dev blog sounds really promising and I completely agree with the approach Big smile

However, I will probably not benefit from any changes unless some other improvements are made because frankly, I have turned music off. The reasons:

1) music interferes with voice comms during pvp
2) when running two clients, as I usually do, each client plays its own music which results in an intolerable sound mash

This would be easy to fix:

1) Make a hotkey to mute and unmute music. I don't want to go to the ESC menu every time I need to turn music on or off, but if I could mute/unmute it with a simple keystroke, I would enable music during quiet periods like pve and mute it when there is need to talk on TS

2) Make sure that only one instance of the client (the one started first) plays music. Shouldn't be too hard. (I guess I could install a separate client and disable music there, but I'm not willing to maintain two clients just for this. I don't even have enough disk space left on my SSD.)

Um, with all due respect...

Please give us the option of turning the B/G music off?

Sorry guys, but it is --IE, the last Duality build I played-- sometimes just jarring, and that's annoying as Hell. Options, please, options!

That, and please don't change the sound of Dual 180mm Autocannon IIs. Best-sounding guns in the game!

You can set it off simply by putting the music volume to 0. The setting gets persisted to your next sessions, so in essence that's how you turn it off...

I have some comments but please note that these are strictly from me as a player!

I am really excited about these changes - For one thing, ship environment sounds make a ton of sense and it's something I've wanted to have for a while. Just add actual crews that modify the ships stats and we're gold :P

I understand the soundcloud initiative; but does it have any impact on people with a limited data plan ?

In the same feeling; can this impact on players with limited bandwidth who perhaps play eve and listen to other online streaming services like EVE-Radio ?

The jukebox vs media player comment is relevant - but don't forget that adding a jukebox and having the ability to play your own MP3s in the thing are not date related at all. If this is not going to be an option moving forwards, will we be able to export our current playlists ?

Sound made when finishing a mission - I hope it's a Ding! :Þ

Otherwise, I really can't wait to hear (pun lol) from you guys Pirate

Thanks!

Just to be clear, Soundcloud is ofc just a website. We are not streaming music into your client when it's running, we're putting the music on Soundcloud as a backup. So people on limited data plans can simply stay clear of that website! :-)

I'm using the jukebox occasionally. And this is coming a bit early, since I'm still waiting for that 50 MBit connection I ordered and that I'll probably get in q1 2013.

Currently I'm still running on 384 KBit/s Lol, so streaming whatever ist not an option.

So, if you open up your EVE folder, and go res > audio > jukebox you'll find all the mp3s used in the game. Just copy them out and put them into your favorite media player.

no, no , NO, NOOOO

I spend ages finding decent EVE-esk music for that absolutely brilliant Jukebox. Now that I finally spread that music (1.4 GIGs) to my fellow clan m8's that really enjoy it, you guys remove it???? No other game came even close with this functionality. I don't want to fire up winamp everytime I play EVE. Please please please...don't do this us. Sad

The jukebox worked like a dream for me, a great shuffle and all custom music felt like it belong in the game. As much as I like the music in the game, it's not enough when you play the game for long periods of time.

For me this is truely a dark day in my personal EVE history, because I really loved its Jukebox...allot.

LucasArts X-Wing, and the iMuse system, combined slices of predefined MIDI segments on the fly, to ramp the intensity up and down, depending on the situation. Beautifully smooth transitions and variety. I wish the games / sound card industry had continued on this path. Unfortunately the quality of what you heard depended on the quality of your sound card's synth. Going all digital gives everyone the same audio experience; good and bad: sigh.

I'm wondering if Team Klang keeps going down this path; will we end up with a client that can compose space-music specific to individual engagements? I'd kind of like that. Oops

We could be all "Man, I remember when we had a fight, and my sound went all *neweeeobowbowwub* but then I got one last rep cycle off *high pitched guitar sounds?* and then you exploded in a giant crescendo of awesome!" around the watercooler.

I may turn my sound back on as well...

But yeah I normally listen to internet streaming when solo, and comms when in groups, so having my sound on is a rare event.

Hi,

One quick request - can the base tracks be randomised?

I get that the music will vary according to where you are in the game, and possibly according to events. But if you generally log-in to the same place every time - then getting exactly the same sequence of music every time get tiresome.

I currently do have the music on in the background, but I have the shuffle tracks feature enabled as I found I was always hearing the first few tracks and never the ones further down the list. (Although that was still slightly buggy as I always got Miner Stories as first track after login.)

write a batch file that opens both eve and media player of choice...

have your playlist as the main (first) playlist...

press play key on your computer. done.

in total, 1 extra keystroke.

I often use the Ctrl+Alt+Shift+F12 shortcut to disable sounds; but it would be nice if there was a modifier that could toggle the music but leave game sounds.

Just out of interest, are there any clips on YouTube demonstrating the new turret sounds ?

Sounds good but I leave my final comment to the point I actually hear what you have done .)

edit:

As side note would be nice if you could add some nice easy access button to disable/enable in game music. If this would also include the login screen music - the work would be excellent.

Eve's background music is nice, but sometimes you have multiple clients or just want to listen the winamp. Going to esc menu to mute music is bit complex and specially the login music really interferes with other music sources as you cant turn it off at all at the moment.

Please use this thread for all your feedback!

What I'd love to have access to are the more exciting bits of music that play when you enter a mission. For ages I've been wondering how I could get my hands on those. By far some of my favorite music selections in the game with the driving industrial sound.

Anyways. Cheers!

I too love those mission tracks. I wish they looped for the whole duration :(

There have been a few links hidden in the topic.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cuuMrSG6ox4 is one.

As for limited data for making your own eve music playlists without the internal jukebox.
In your game folder you can find all the music files in program files>CCP>EVE>res>audio>jukebox
They are basic mp3 format so should work with any player you have.

For special scores that wont be included in in the jukebox folder but are on soundcloud like expansion songs. There is some easy 3ed party sites like Soundcloud-downloader that you give the url of the sound cloud song and they give you a direct link to the music file.
