That's a safe bet if i've ever seen one.

When we consider that we are rapidly approaching EVE's 10th birthday, a retrospective might also be nice. Go back to the archives and find out what people were saying 10 years ago, what their hopes and aspirations were for themselves and EVE, then get the same input from people now and see how things match up.

This retrospective might turn out to be more depressing then we want it to be. Just browse through some old issues of the EON magazine. It's painful to see what the devs promised back then and comparing it to what we have now. To clarify, i am not a whiner and i love the game as it is, but maaaaan, those guys really were full of it when they talked to EON. Hopes and aspirations... we better not think about them too much and be glad for what we have.

Just remember, the key word in "haven't done it" is "yet".

At the risk of being unpopular, I'm going with "dead and buried". Even though I realize it's most likely totally not true. After all, Ultima Online is still alive in a sense.

There's just too much about the game that is already badly outdated, and keeps getting more and more outdated year after year. Good examples being drones, drone UI, D-scan and its functionality, etc. New things are being added, such as PI, but such a tiny sliver of the population partake in it, and fewer still actually enjoy it, that it probably wasn't worth the time it took to implement in the first place. Following this paradigm, the future just looks bleak to me. Further, when things are being added to the game that almost nobody asked for, and they're being added in a broken state (like the upcoming NPC AI change, which is...well...broken), it doesn't help.

But hey, that's just me. I've always been a glass-is-half-empty guy.

The sad part is, I still feel like this game could have been so much more by now, if only some factions didn't cling to silly, outdated features. Had the game been modernized, adding things that are pretty much a standard for the industry, I feel it could have been far bigger than it currently is. Good example of this? Fonts and font sizes. When was the last time you saw a serious MMO where you couldn't change font size? In most, you can change the font as well. Most popular current MMO has a fully customizable UI and fonts. Coincidence? Possibly, but I doubt it.

You call it broken but cant decide why, aside from some crap about font size. You can change the font size, and Dscan isnt outdated you just don;t know how to use it properly.

I'll still be subscribed, not having paid a single dime/penny/øre/yen to CCP over those years.

I find myself feeling that EvE is actually at a cross road in its development.

The path they choose over the next 12-24 months will decide this games life span, especially with other games coming out.

Looking back on the Videos of the past yesterday, I noticed something. All the old videos were on story line displaying the new features within that context while all the new ones just show you the new features being released.

What concerns me most is the direction of the game, yes PvP is good fun and a laugh but most of the players only do that just for a laugh. To top it all off features like POS and Corporate management have come up as needing repairs and just get forgotten for the newest flashy PvP feature.

The same goes for mining and manufacture, yes they got the barge fix and the new Ore frigate and the salvage drones and we will probably never see more done.

The decisions CCP make now will decide if this game exists in 10 years.

The future of EvE is NOW!!

Any spelling, grammatical and punctuation errors are because frankly, I don't care!!
