Should WIS be a Kickstarter type project with CCP?

I would if it was developed and released as a separate game like DUST. Make it something similar to Second Life so that when Capsuleers do get to use it, the station will be filled with roleplayers, cyberwhores and peasants too poor to afford spaceships.

WIS could be reserved for those that choose to utilize it as well as anyone with a negative wallet balance, then all that remains is to remove CONCORD and institute a fine system rather than CONCORD instapopping you.

While Kickstarter idea (crowdfunding) seems to be inappropriate for successful company such as CCP - idea of "PLEX voting" seems to be ok. I.e. CCP could set up list of goals which could be boosted and assign certain value of PLEXes to each of them to be in priority (for example "common station halls in 3 months = 5000 PLEXes"). Although it may be seen as bad precedent for the company extorting additional resources out of subscribers it could clearly indicate players' interests and priorities to certain branches of development - unlike not-so-clear non-stop forum whining and silent exodus after nerfs and content-less "expansions".

I don't see why they couldn't port some of the code used for DUST to create WIS, discarding all the current code. Maybe it could even be a shared environment between DUST (without their weapons) and EVE players.

That is much, much, much, much, much harder than it sounds for a variety of reasons of which the most important one is DUST and Eve use 2 different engines and, suffice to say, we could literally talk game engines all day and still barely scratch the surface.

Also, I believe the plan is to eventually allow Eve and Dust players to share the same environment sometime down the road.

...like waaaaaaaay down the road.

Hell, I would pay a little extra to get WiS off the ground.

It would leave a bad taste in my mouth though, because frankly I am already paying them pretty regularly.
In fact I have been paying them for four years on two accounts, with the hope that they're spending some of that on developing WiS.

There is something quite appealing about that idea. Maybe introduce a free-to-play model whereby you can't leave a station without a pilots licence (or train skills, for obvious reasons).

Should CCP use this model, or even present different WiS proposals to EVE players to see which we'd prefer to invest in? I'd happily pay a bit up front to have something named after me etc.

Thoughts...?

Axtually, I'd appeciate that as long bas CCP doesn't deduct any ressoruces outside the Kickstarter money to it.

An option to pay CCP for scrapping WiS may be more lucrative though, at least from me...

It should be free to play so explayers can log in as WIS'ers and talk to old corp mates and what not. That'd hopefully pull more people back in.

Just imagine how many more subscribers you could attract with a free to play model that wouldn't break Eve.

Seriously? You would rather walk around arbitrarily in a station rather than flying the big spaceships?

Why are you here? Go back to Habbo Hotel.

I think one of the most expensive MMO subscription fees, and an overly expensive cash shop is more than enough.

Donations on top of that?

People didn't want it for free last year. Why would they want to pay extra for it now?

I like it, let the people who want walking in Stations pay for it. All they need to do is "borrow some code" design station environments and they are done. < Just imagine it without the gun or monsters.

If their is anything left over from this high quality station design they can use that money to redesign the Moa, Imicus and Celestis. Big smile

Picture that.
a Sub 'entitles' us to the demands we see on the forum now.

Picture the demands if someone had $5000 invested.

Everybody against WIS should black out their avatars, make them real ugly or w/e to show CCP what we think about wanking in stations.

No because CCP is no longer "indie".

I think its an idea that could work. Dust should've been done that way for the PC not the stupid PS3. They squandered resources on a PS3 game that will come back to bite them.

I've suggested this before. I think it is a great idea if only just to show how little people would actually pay for WIS. Or if there is enough support then that is great.

I don't see anywhere where it says you have to be Indie to use kickstarter or why anyone would care if someone random game company laughed at CCP.

It's really simple business here:
Will the increase in subs/plexs redeemed be enough to justify the expense of adding in more WIS. Kickstarter will answer this.
