Does honor have a place in eve?

Personally, having honor makes me feel good.
But defining honor is often times not clear cut.
Some PVPers consider in unhonorable to gank a newbie.
Some like Red vs Blue feel that it is unhonorable to not fight fair within the alliance but anything goes outside of the alliance.
It seems some PVPer are nothing more than terrorists and have no honor at all.
I have noticed that a player Jame315 has taken on the role of a gangster and is selling protection.

I realize that there are few controls (like Concord) in eve and I like it that way.
Having the opportunity to be dishonorable and choosing not to be, gives the choice more value.
I do not understand why players would revel in being a rabid beast with no honor.
Whenever i tried to do that, it made me fill bad.

So the question is;

Does honor any place in eve?

Yes I am an alt. I see no reason to make it easy for bullies and greifers

I think the answer to that question should came from and differs from each individual. Honor is what you make of it, it is worthless to me because this is a game, but some people may think differently; and that, in no way affects mine. Trust is a different matter though...

Depends. Sadly all's fair in love and war, so...if you want to win wars?...No.

Now if you define honor as an act like, defending someone, or helping someone who was scammed, or some such, then it has its moments, and when it does, it's glorious.

I remember being new and, being a scrub to the ways of older contract scams, lost 40 million isk. At the time, it really was a big deal for me. I had shared the news with an in game friend playing since 2003. I told him I may not continue Eve, as I don't think I'm up for it.

But he talked to me, encouraged me, and built me up to keep on fighting and trying. He gave me 40mil isk to make up for the loss, and helped me to learn to identify scams.

That kind of act, to me, is honor. It's those little actions that make this game great and can keep new players around.

I finally agree with jenn on something.

I just don't understand null sec players.

Space bushido?

Yes, saw some in Alliance Tournament.

In the real EvE world, do not expect it.

Don't be scared, because being afk is not a crime.

Playing EVE with honor and integrity is hard mode.

Honor. Honor is what brings us together today.
Honor, that blessed arrangement, that dream within a dream...
And karma, true karma, will follow you forever...
So treasure your honor.

Good fight. Say good fight.
Good fight!

I am a person who's not playing EVE to compensate my poor RL where I am a loser but in EVE I am something bigger than you hiding behind my screen. I play the game to have fun with other ppl supporting each other. I love the game because it's tough, rude, evil, challanging and close to RL. I can deal with dishonor and adapt. Maybe some ppl like to assroleplay. EVE gives you the freedom to do this. Without them and dishonor the game would be boring. But there's a lot of honor. And it's worth it. Because honor will be payed back with trust and friendship. Dishonor will be payed back with mistrust, lies and betrayal. It's up to you how you will fly and play. Whatever you choose. In EVE it's right.

Yes and No. You shouldn't moan if people don't adhere to whatever honorable system you uphold. On the other hand most people have atleast somethings they do, some code they follow.

I honor ransoms
I keep my word.
I honor 1vs1 if arranged.

Does this make me a idiot ? Sure - some people would say that not dropping people in 1vs1' fights with all my friends means I get less kills. Some people would say I'm a fool for not shooting people after getting their ransom money. At the end of the day it depends on each person.

Agreed.

There are actually many honorouble players in EVE, even pirates who have honour, and yes, even hardcore PvP'ers.

Flying with honor does have a place in EVE, but expecting honorable behavior does not. Generally, flying with honor is flying with a handicap. Plan accordingly.

Sure;
There is a lot of "honor" in Eve...mostly in combination with the word "Orthonormal set of movement vectors" though...

Honour? There can be no honour in these times.

Honor has a very big place in EVE.
Ask Firebird Squadron how dishonoring a ransom worked out for them for example.

There is no Bob.
