People say it out of habit... probably 90% arent trying to be rude or be nice, they just type it just cus.. We prison shanked a rev the other week and all typed "GF" in local, and honestly I just did it cus thats what I normally do after a fight. I'm sure he wasnt thinking it was a GF at all. oh well, who cares.. GF

Solo pilot warps or jumps into a bubble in 0.0 and is blabbed 20v1.

Some scrub in the blab says "GF" in local. What good fight?

Is the person trying to be rude or are they terrible at the game and think that it was actually a GF?

Its only a good fight if the loser says GF first.

It's not my style to say anything in Local, good fight or otherwise.

I usually only say 'GF' sarcastically.

Got jumped once in a Badger, popped in seconds, and up comes "gf" in Local.

"Not even close, but I hope you had fun." And warped off.

There's an analogy there about ****, but that would be in bad taste. Shocked

I'd say it still beats the internet tough guy's smacktalk. Everytime i see unfunny smacktalk i always picture myself it's a 34y old unemployed dude in his mom's basement typing it.

In a gang that big wouldn't it be better to type "GF" in local when the gate fire flashes?

Dunno what people get so worked up about. Learn to laugh at your own mistakes a bit! The G in the F is in the planning, not in the execution. By the time you are at that stage the F is pretty much over. A proper response to a gank can simply be:

> Good catch
> Well played
> Nice b**bs

Nah. It's just what you say after a fight if you have any manners.
It's like shaking hands with the other team after the match.

Sorry but no.

IF it was a good fight for BOTH sides ... THEN it is a "shake hands".
Any other time it's just a : "MUHAHA NOOB, WE PWNED YOU SUCKER!!!!".

But I understand, that most who abuse the "GF" aren't mental sensible enough to understand how rude it is to spam "GF" after they blobed a helpless victim (best are shuttel, rookie ships, hauler, mining bargs) 20v1.

Respectfull would be something like: "Sorry but we had to" or "more luck next time".

Why the hell can't I fitt capital repairs or shield booster on an Orca ... it's an CAPITAL ship!

There is nothing more honourable than blapping somebody in a bubble with 19 friends, except perhaps blapping somebody in a bubble with 20 friends. Which is less honourable than blapping somebody in a bubble with 21 friends, and so on.

In all seriousness if you're unironically uptight about ~honoure~ in eve online you should be ashamed of yourself

Calling a spade a spade isn't e-bushido, it's just effective communication.

If someone says gf after a 20-1 blapfest, when it obviously wasn't a gf, then the blappee won't know if it's just well meaning but unclear commiseration, or active smacktalk. It's more effective communication if the blappers say either

A. "lolpwned," if they're trying to smacktalk, or

B. "as;dlfkjas;ldfk," if they're just trying to be unclear but say something to demonstrate that they view the victim as worth the effort of noncommunicative keystrokes in local.

Of course the blappers could be trying to sow confusion with intentionally unclear language, in which case gf works perfectly.

I always considered it intentionally rude to say GF if you just ganked someone.

People on voice will be like "GF noob lol" after he's raped.

Hmmm, you seem rather thin skinned for someone who casually uses the word raped to describe a friendly contest in a video game.

It's not a lack of honor; it's a lack of respect/courtesy. I don't get miffed about it; I just know better than to think it actually required effort, was challenging, or amounted to an accomplishment for the other side when they gank someone. It's only a GF if you've earned it.

I respect your opinion on this, but really what are you supposed to say if you burn someone down through no fault of their own and you wish to be a good sport about it.

"Nice try", while more accurate, hardly seems to capture the essence of being a good natured salute. Smile

"Better luck next time," isn't bad. Actually, I tend to prefer razzing as I can sport with that. "Fn Noob," always pisses me off, but silence, or good natured heckling doesn't bother me. Criticism is cool where it's helpful; not so much where it is thoughtless and derogatory.
