Please note: A Corporation leaving an alliance at war will take with it all wars the alliance was in, with immediate effect. New wars will be declared with the leaving corp as aggressor, and the first week of war will be free. A bill will be issued for the second week of war, and if it is not paid, the war will end at the end of the free week.

This is from the wiki, now my confusion is the part about new wars will be declared with the leaving corp as aggressor. I take it that I'm just reading it wrong, as a corp that left an alliance I'd decd took the war with it as defender, then promptly joined another alliance spreading the war like a virus to them.

Is it working as intended that wars can spread this way? I'm not complaining, just after some clarification, nothing wrong with free targets.

The wiki lies! A corp leaving an alliance at war only becomes the aggressor if the alliance they're leaving is the aggressor.

If you haven't already read this, it may shed some more light on what is going on.

Who put the goat in there?

You read it right, but that information is wrong. Corporations that leave an alliance will get copies of the alliance's wars. The corp will also assume whatever role the alliance had in the war. If the alliance was the aggressor, the corp will be the aggressor in the new war copy. Likewise if the alliance was the defender, the corp will be a defender.

If the alliance is assisting as a defender in someone else's war, then the dropped corp will NOT be a defender in that war.
