Well hybrids have gotten a lot better, but it is still true they often feel subpar. You need to keep in mind though that hybrids are not considered any races primary weapon system. Both caldari and gallente have gunships that rely on hybrid turrets. However Caldari are according to lore and the tutorials primarily focused on missiles. They have the best missile boats. While Gallente are according to lore and the tutorials primarily focused on drones. They have the best drone boats.

If you are flying gallente and you focus on hybrid DPS while ignoring drones, yes you will feel gimped. Because Gallente ships rely on drones for a big chunk of there DPS. Just as flying caldari ships without missile skills will leave you very lacking in what you can fly effectively.

The current trend in ship balancing seems to be blurring these lines much more, but the fact still remains that hybrid turrets are a secondary weapon class shared by both caldari and gallente. It is not the focused weapon system for either.

From a lore point of view you could say they are sub par due to the nations that use them focusing their technological development on other systems. So they never developed hybrid turrets to the point where they are on par with the more focused weapon systems of the Amarr and Minmatar nations. In recent years though they have realized how this was a poor choice and have begun to focus on the correction of this flaw in their nations military. This has resulted in recent advances in Hybrid turret technology,(patches that have improved their effectiveness) and the introduction of new and refurbished hulls to take full advantage of these recent advances.( balance changes to ships and modules bringing hybrid turrets up to par).

EVE is a growing and changing universe. It only makes sense that the factions controlling this space will also grow and change over time. It would be really great for immersion, and make the EVE universe seem much more alive, if live events that are promised to become more common would actually cause permanent changes in the EVE universe.

How cool would it be if rare live events such as a major battle between factions actually caused the owner ship and/or security status of systems to change. How cool would it be if players participating in those events could influence the outcome. Contested low sec systems belonging to the winning side could actually become high sec system, while high sec systems on the losing side might drop in security status to the point where they become low sec systems. These changes would have to be rare, like once or twice per year but would really give the EVE universe a feel of being alive, and changing.

What about the incursions ending in Sansha nation actually becoming a new faction controlling a portion of space that used to belong to empire factions. There are so many possibilities of what could be done through live events to change the world we have all come to love.
