nah i think the game is fair since the freighter pilot decides the value of what he puts in his cargo hold

Hey, they actually almost sounds reasonable...

Although that still leaves the issue that cargo scanners are essentially a hostile act that don't bring hostile penalties...perhaps if you combined the above with a tiny sec status loss whenever it was activated on a non-fleet member it would be balanced.

Really, because cargo scanners certainly currently don't follow the normal mechanics of essentially all hostile modules having negative impact whenever activated....you can scan all day long in jita and wait till the juiciest most undefended target came along....High sec missioners can pick their missions to some extent but they don't get to choose whether the boss actually drops the best loot. No reason pvp players should be able to pick the reward for their fights. Sure..let them go ahead and choose which ships and pilots they want to gank....and if you want cargo scanning to stay, give it more drawbacks so there is some real penalty for using it.

Then again, it's not like gankers can pick their drops either. Yes, they can wait until they get a good candidate but they are at the mercy of other players in presenting those targets and at the mercy of the RNG to have the juicy bits survive the explosion.

Cargo scans are intel gathering tools. Giving scanning drawbacks is about as sensible as giving drawbacks to probe launchers and the starmap. Intel tools should be imprecise and require time to filter and improve the data, but outright penalties is over the top. Taking precious time to get all the info you need is its own drawback.

Again, people demand a nerf to something when there is already very simple answers to their problem.

Maybe you think doing a show info on the pilot should give aggro too? Roll

don't say sensible things like that, you'll upset them.
also, don't get them wet or feed them after midnight.

If you feed them after midnight, they change from cute cuddly noobs into hard core trolls?

Also, I'm gonna say if I can fly a fully faction fit vindi through amarr space(where I am seriously wanted, so the NPCs would be on the gankers side) without getting ganked, then you are doing something wrong if you are getting ganked.

I would settle for simply a less accurate cargo scanner. I am thinking something along the lines of giving.more abstract information about volume and density of the cargo versus a de facto cargo manifest that it now gives. This would add some uncertainty back into the formula such that gankers are not able to manage their risk using only the ingame calculator...

I like that idea.

This.

LIFTA.. leave it the f*ck alone. Everyone has a fix but it isn't broken in the first place.

I just don't understand null sec players.

simply buy small amounts of hundreds of different types of low value items that can't stack together and the nestle the few valuable items or stacks of items in you cargo. the scanner will *likely see the tons and tons of low value items and not sift through it in detail, and if they do you should be gone by then

Already use that approach.

There is a problem about Ganks? Could the OP please show me the Dev Blog where CCP claims there is an issue. Until you show us such a dev blog, there is no issue. So the solution is simple, take getting ganked.

cargo scanning doesn't harm the ship receiving the scan in any conceivable way, it merely provides information on the targeted ship which may or may not be acted upon by the scannee.

why not complain next that cloaking in highsec should trigger aggro because it gives information on a target ship's location and activities which could then be acted upon.

Not just that, nerf it in nullsec as well, right?
