Skill training queue

So I couldn't update eve in a week because all I had available was my 3G connection which I can't afford to use to update eve-online to just log-in and set a new skill to train.

Why is there even a limit on the amount of skills you set in the queue?

Why can't you put many skills to be trained in a year?

We are paying every month.
I just log to change the skill training queue, I barely play.

So what's the point? Strategically speaking to force players to keep logging in ?

I ended up without training a single skill point for a week.

Thank you ccp

Edit:
All you flamers never thought about the idea of suggesting a way to change skill training by the website?
All I said was that with the current means even with internet I couldnt set a new skill train because my client was out of date

Last time I reinstalled my computer I put 6~10 day skills on my characters. This is your own fault OP, CCP has nothing to do it.

CCP has no sense of humour.

The training queue is not there to make training set-and-forget-for-a-year. The training queue is there so that you don't have to log in at 4 AM to put in a new skill.

I would like to see a reasonable explanation from anyone why the limit is 24 hours as opposed to say 48, 72, etc.

^^ this is correct answer. Also CCP use ancient code which is missing the very basic features of MMOs such as ability to switch characters without closing game client and relogging.

It's for new players, to keep them interested and get them into the game, if I had to guess. The regular, continuous skill manipulation in the first week or so is much like the grind of other MMOs if you think about it, and probably helps some players to adapt, while keeping others busy enough, while showing results, that they keep playing.

It's the shortest time period that works. If it was e.g. 6 hours, you could end up in a situation when you get free space in queue at 1 AM, and it runs out at 6 AM. This would mean you'd have to alarmclock to set your training at some point. A 24 hour long queue guarantees that you will always have "free" time to put in a skill. (Assuming you don't work 24 hour shifts, which could be an issue.)

yeah mainly because very few countries wouldn't have some kind of law prohibiting that.

Is that what you understood? lol gl on your rl life

I was on a trip and thought it wasnt worth mentioning the details nor reasons of my limited "access" to internet.

The point as the last poster mention is the 24 hrs limit

Eve uses barely anything, a few MB an hour this is playing the game.
To change skills would guess its unoticeble so why you couldn't log on once or twice to fix a skill?

My money is on you are poor, you had no "expensive" (not for me) 3g connection and you couldn't log on anyway.

It's not a skill queue. It's a skill changing buffer. 24h is more than enough since the world has this interesting 24h rotation time around its axis.

Having the skill queue at 24 hours is like the daily bonus you get in other games. It's an incentive for you (especially for new players though who have these short skills) to log in everyday, check your skills, see what's going on in your corp while you're online anyway etc..

if you have a laptop why not bring it to tim hortons or mc donalds... anywhere where its free wifi and then update your skils.
At the end of the game both the pawn and the Queen go in the same box.

So that you have to be actively playing to skill up. As for why 24, well they had to pick a number and no matter what it was someone will complain that it should be a different amount.

It's a well known fact that you need an internet connection to play EVE.
