I'll do what I always do these days with new MMOs. Ignore all the prelaunch hype and see what people have to say about the game a few months after release. This way you'll skip all the bullshit you get fed prelaunch and all the launch related shananigans. By then people have also gotten over the honeymoon period of a new MMO, so they are better able to form a realiable view of the game with all the good and bad it entails. If it still sounds like a solid and interesting game, I'll give it a go.

Game companies need to realize the corporate tendency to copy something else which made money to make make more money doesn't work with MMOs.

The less your game is like WoW the more likely it is to succeed. We want new things.

If you like Skyrim then stay way from this game because other than lore the 2 are nothing alike.

Is realy hard to create somthing orginal, All games like Rift, WOW, Lineage, Srtarwars, Startrek online, Age of conan etc are copy of copy.

Meny Devs focus more on own corporation wallet than in game it self, but life is brutal, comercy, greed etc, here few game companys who realy love and care about own products, sadly in most cases good games made with love, offer only single player mode while most mmos are crap.

I have no idea how this Elder of scrols online went, just sharing information about it, if somone are interesed, that all ;]

I am quite the fan of TES. Especially Skyrim. I started a Dead Is Dead Thread on the day of release. I await the next expansion. However, I am not the least bit interested in this...what ever it supposed to be.

EVE is the only MMO I have ever played and I don't even see it as such.

I mean more like the difference between EVE and WoW. One of this games strongest selling points is that it's completely unique. And there's games like The Secret World coming out which are many times better than WoW in that style of game, but i think would have gotten more recognition if they deviated even further from the standard EQ/WoW model.

Had hopes.
Lost.

Yet another game for "general audience" i.e. WoW playerz, not TES fan base.
1. general audience targeted
2. single player instancing
3. play the hero and no neutral or evil alignment/style (eg assassin in shining armor lol)
4. WoW style character class system (Not skill tree system)

nonono it could be done, it just can't be done. mmo's have become too fashionable, mainstream, and casual cash cows. It's not just TES having problems, but most any mmo going into development the past five+ years or so. So we don't see anything truly epic any longer like UO, SWG, DAoC, EQ1 etc. at least not by AAA developers with armies of investors, lawyers, psychologists and marketing analysts. And even those mentioned fell into the emergent trend at some point, revamped then mostly died off.

Hardcore and core mmo's are more suited to the limitations of indies at this point, and their lack of armies to tell them "what we want" or the only "viable market target" acceptable for the investors. At least indies focused on retaining players for the long duration rather than a fast payout and quick turnover. It's the difference between seeing the slow gradual steady growth of games like EVE (CCP being a successful indie) compared to the huge box sales of swtor and inevitable die off.

imo TES Online would have been more likely to fit the TES fan base target if done after the release of Morrowind as many wanted back then. Rather simple, sandbox, focused on life in the gameworld and player interaction. Now that's impossible, it just couldn't get funded. Casual players expect a lot now, at release, or they will quit in a month rather than three, and will complain if it's challenging and takes time investment of more than ninety days to cap. That's not good for market analysis, investors back off.

It is not TES that so many of it fans love and been playing for more than 15 years , it is a attempt to cash in on tjhe MMO market

It is a remake of a a older game doac with a slight TES flavour
Fixed factions depending on your race , predetermined classes ,a lore rewritten so it matches the MMO , just to name some of the things that i so resent about ESO and are definitely not what TES is all about

It might bear its name but it will not be TES

I do not agree with what you are saying , but i will defend to the death your right to say it...... Voltaire

I'm not really looking forward to TES online.

I love TES series, and get pretty immersed in the world sometimes just reading the books ingame and such, but i end up heavily modding my games, because of something that annoys me, like originally not being able to make arrows.

My feelings are pretty much the same. TES series is what it is today because of the moddability of the game. It keeps them alive until the next game is released and even after, since you can mod it to be an entirely different type of game if you want to. The vanilla versions have always been well made games on their own, but also have always had some serious flaws. To Bethesda's credit they listen to their players and include the popular mods in their updates(like arrow crafting) or new games, so every new game in the series is mostly an improvement over the previous game in the franchise as far as gameplay and immersion is concerned.

ESO seems to make the mistake in thinking, that I play TES series because of the lore and will be happy to play any type of game set in the same universe. To me the appeal of TES is all about the sandbox, the freedom to do anything you want with minimal limitations, the unique character development and the moddability. Their game doesn't even aim to offer that and instead have opted to mimic what other games have done in the past. It may be a good game, but as a TES fan I have very little interest in the game they're intent on making.
