Less Mechanics! More Sandbox!

While I agree in general with the OP, there are some problems with a truly open sandbox.

Mainly that players have no vested interest in keeping Eve alive. There are a large number of groups that will happily run it into the ground and then move on to the next game once they've effectively ruined it.

CCP, on the other hand, does have an interest in keeping the game as a viable source of fun for the majority of it's player base. So they are waging a meta war against these groups. The only weapon at their disposal is adding more rules as exploits are discovered and taken advantage of.

No matter how altruistic people my be in real life, once they are hiding behind an avatar they become pure fuckwads. Thus CCP has to keep adding more and more restrictions, nerfs. checks and balances.

@Mr Epeen: I don't actually think thats the case. It just means the players have to do their own policing, and if CCP had a more open sandbox, we would be able to do that. There are plenty of 'carebears' in highsec who I'm sure would love to gang up and softly **** James315 if they could, but he's in an NPC corp, and thus nearly untouchable. You can always take rules away, as long as the way you take rules away means that for every destructive action a player tries to take, other players can counter it.

Every sandbox needs walls to keep the sand in. Otherwise its just a desert?

But yes. Too many crappy mechanics.

Tho there are problems with all this, it would be a breath of fresh air and i guess some of the exitement i felt when i started EVE would come back.

Would be interesting to see how many systems the largest alliances really where using.

If this ships a´rockin, then im strangling someone....
