Walt Disney this afternoon announced a deal to buy Lucasfilm from Star Wars director and film pioneer George Lucas for $4.05 billion in cash and stock.

Under terms of the deal, Lucas will be paid half in cash and half in the form of about 40 million Disney shares.

“Lucasfilm reflects the extraordinary passion, vision, and storytelling of its founder, George Lucas,” Disney CEO Robert Iger said in a statement. “This transaction combines a world-class portfolio of content including Star Wars, one of the greatest family entertainment franchises of all time, with Disney’s unique and unparalleled creativity across multiple platforms, businesses, and markets to generate sustained growth and drive significant long-term value.”

I'd like to apologize for the poor quality of the post above and sincerely hope you didn't waste your time reading it. Yes, I do feel bad about it.

I would be worried, if Lucas hadn't already given up on star wars and driven the franchise in to the ground. It was the correct decision to let others handle it from now on and disney is as good of an owner as any of the alternatives. At least now the franchise is going to have some kind of a future and the fans have something concrete to look forward to.

I realized this means Disney has the rights to Indiana Jones........and Howard the Duck.

AND the horrific possibility of "Willow 2".

Lol

Well, I understand why they did it... they are in dire need of new franchises to exploit.

...but thinking about a SW reboot... or Indy... this can go so horribly horribly wrong.

Fantastic! Roll out the straight to DVD starwars sequels, pre-prequels, side stories, and alternate realities crudely drawn in taiwan by 12 year olds and voiced by no-names.

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

Was worse when they bought Marvel Comics.

Disney won't rest until they've molested every last bit of our childhoods.

George Lucas already ruined the Star Wars franchise for me, he did it in 2 stages, the remaster of "a new hope" is nowhere near as good as the theatrical release that I saw in the cinema when I was 7 (OMG MIND BLOWN) and then he did the prequel to the sequel thing, Darth Vader was much better as an enigmatic evil bastard, we didn't need his back story.

Having your eyeballs gouged out with frozen spoons while simultaneously being tortured by a Justin Bieber and Nicki Minaj duet with music composed by Rick Astley is better than Jar Jar, the future of that character should include hanging, drawing and quartering.

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.
