I'm amazed we've gotten this far in the thread without anyone bringing up the crucifier/sentinel.

I actually like those... Horribly lopsided completly unflyable designs.

After flying the arazu/lachesis I can understand the idea behind their design far better, but they need a lot of work. the crifier/sentinel is sadly pretty hopeless imho.

i have to say the sentinal never really felt amarrian in design compared to all the other amarr ships, it was very .... flimsy and felt more of a minnie design more than anything.

The most noticeable thing for me was that they took the 'hull droop' out of the superstructure, as seen from the side. I expect this to happen to the mach at some point as well. I approve, in a general sort of way, but I still don't see why this took place over a fixed domi or celestis model P

We are going over the megathron because we wanted to have all tier 2 BS being redesigned in a row.
I believe if we have the time for redesigning the ugly ones (domi, moa, all the old mining ships etc) for the next expansion, we will do just that.

Any chance of not redesigning the moa? How about bringing back the old scorpion model and cancelling the megathron change?

The current scorpion model is beyond ********.

I saw the redesign for the Imicus, and my only hope is please do not leave the 'training' wheel wings on.

Moa needs redesigned. It is just too bad off. It looks like a chicken being baked or something. I hate the ship. It makes me want to puke looking at it... I mean that literally. Trying to look at it and put some kind of logic to it, it makes me sick.

The new Megathron model is alright, but it does lose some of that organic feel it has right now. I think it's mostly the texture though, right now anyway.

As for the Scorpion, I agree. I never did like this new model. Before, the ship had character, now it's just too obvious. It's like, "oh look, it's a Scorpion, and it actually looks like a Scorpion. How quaint...". I think it would look much better with the one wing shape it used to have, just with the updated model and textures.

Also, while we're on the subject:
BunnyVirus, could you please, for the love of God and all that is holy in the universe, PLEASE talk to someone and get that stupid Ishukone skin changed? Nobody likes it. I f'ing hate it. They used to have the awesome blue cammo, but it was removed because of the new Navy skins. But please, not that horrible gray/gold crap that is on there now.

The ww2 inspiration was hit or miss. the gallente and caldari made it out awesome. the amarr and minmatar ehhhhh
I like the giraffe look, the body as a whole could be improved, specially as a turret ship. Hope they could see to the gila being more unique as a missile drone ship.

So who do we gotta talk to then? I guarantee you would be hard pressed to find anyone who likes it...

As for the new destroyers, I like the new Caldari one, the Gallente one is.. alright I guess. The Minmatar one is meh, at least it doesn't look like it would fall apart if one of the crew farted. The Amarr one, I dunno. It feels "fat" to me. It kinda reminds me of the Abaddon, honestly. I think it'll grow on me after a bit, just uneasy with it at first.

Those who dislike Moa only fly Drake and Tengu anyway, so their sense of taste is somehow questionable.

Moa is not for everyone. It's simple: if you dont like it - fly any other ship you like, but dont ruin experience for those who like how this ship looks and how it fits in EVE universe.
Personally I don't want to see how all ships in EVE will transform to Enterprise and Millennium Falcon clones, because majority decided that particular ship is "ugly". We don't need another Scorpion ruined with idea "lets do it symmetrical like um.. Scorpion!".
Unique ships like old Scorpion, Moa, Blackbird, Tempest - are those ships that made me stay in EVE Online.

I'm sorry but new Scorpion looks WAY better than old Scorpion.

With your ship list there, it seems that you really favor the hulls that many others refer to as "ugly." I think the updated Tempest looks awesome. The Vargur even moreso. Moa doesn't bother me so much, but he blackbird looks asymmetrical and lopsided for asymmetry's sake. If something is asymmetrical because it has some sort of sense behind why it'd be that way "in the real world," then I think many more people can relate to, and even embrace the design.

And before you start arguing that Eve isn't "a real world," keep in mind that design and technology elements we can relate to come from our real world we experience every day going to work or watching TV. At the end of the day, the game designers need to create an environment and a universe we can relate to. That way, it's easier for us to suspend our disbelief and Eve becomes a place we can invest in and have fun doing it because it all makes sense.

Maybe if it wasn't so plain like
http://i874.photobucket.com/albums/ab303/Firetempest/gradientsample.jpg
Its rather lifeless colors as it is. The angle for the transition from front to back does not work well either as the lighter color is to the rear, giving a reverse motion. If anything, the bow should be the "hot" or bright point of the scheme.
Keeping the earthy sand "gold" with another monotone color like grey, the gradient should be horizontal. Possibly mirrored, so the same color is top and bottom with the profile of the ship outlined in the second color.

Having something like that with the gold would do wonders for it. And that's another thing that bothers me so much with it, it going from back to front like that. It was a HORRIBLE design decision by someone...

Also, the Moa looks like ass. Plain and simple. It's assymetrical for the sake of being assymetrical and it looks like crap. Like the entire body of the ship deforms in the back to merge into the two long, trailing engines in the back. Or how the whole ship is cocked upward while those engines are "level" with their direction. The whole thing just looks like a bad acid trip.

Yeah i really hate these masochistic people that claim the moa "looks nice". These people are clearly lying to their selves. Lay off the mindflood.

Because EVE is a mix of designs styles, with regards to symmetry and asymmetry, half of the ships in EVE belong in one group and the other half in the other.

Gallente ships, like the Atron are beautiful. I've always been fascinated with the idea that Gallente ships were grown rather than manufactured, with biomechanical engineering at its finest, second to the Jove (Think the Navigators from Alien, or any of Giger's designs). The odd, organic and sometimes asymmetrical shapes really stand out from the other races and that's what makes them so damn cool, as long as the ship looks functional, excess or one sided wingy bits are a nice design feature.

this completely

symmetry is boring and bland, asymmetry is much more interesting and organic.

stop letting graphic designers make ships and get some artists to do it :P

In fact, nature is symmetrical, thus symmetry is "organic". Symmetry comes in many forms, not just linear. Good examples are flowers, which have rotational symmetry, or DNA and its helical symmetry.

Being more attracted to something asymmetrical is very interesting, psychologically speaking, as we are prone to find it less pleasant than its opposite.

Make it idiot-proof and someone will make a better idiot.
